Abstract: A column is described for carrying out reactive distillations in the presence of a heterogeneous particulate catalyst having an ordered packing or random packings which form intermediate spaces in the column interior, the quotient of the hydraulic diameter for the gas flow through the ordered packing or the random packings and the equivalent diameter of the catalyst particles being in the range from 2 to 20, preferably in the range from 5 to 10, in such a manner that the catalyst particles are introduced into the intermediate spaces, distributed and discharged loose under the action of gravity.

Abstract: Continuous process for the epimerisation of pentoses and hexoses by heating a sugar dissolved in a solvent in the presence of a basic anion exchanger loaded with a molybdenum(VI) compound, which is characterised in that, for the preparation of a D- or L-sugar with cis-OH groups in the 2- and 3-position of the sugar, a homogeneous solution of the corresponding sugar with trans-OH groups in the 2- and 3-position of the sugar is passed continuously in a mixture of water and methanol or ethanol at temperatures from 70 to 100 DEG C, preferably 73 to 80 DEG C, through a reaction tube which contains the basic anion exchanger loaded with the molybdenum(VI) compound. This process is particularly suitable for the epimerisation of D-arabinose to the D-ribose needed for the preparation of riboflavin.

Abstract: Columna para la puesta en práctica de destilaciones reactivas en presencia de un catalizador heterogéneo en forma de partículas, con una empaquetadura formada por chapas de empaquetadura que forman cavidades en el espacio interior de la columna, caracterizada porque la columna presenta primera y segunda zona parcial, que están dispuestas alternantemente, y se diferencian en la superficie específica de las chapas de empaquetadura, de tal manera que en las primeras zonas parciales el cociente de diámetro hidráulico para la corriente gaseosa a través de la empaquetadura y el diámetro equivalente de partículas de catalizador se sitúa en el intervalo de 2 a 20, preferentemente en el intervalo de 5 a 10, de modo que las partículas de catalizador se pueden introducir en las cavidades, distribuir y descargar sueltas bajo acción de la fuerza de gravedad, y porque en las segundas zonas parciales el cociente de diámetro hidráulico para la corriente gaseosa a través de la empaquetadura y el diámetro equivalente de partículas de catalizador es menor que 1, y porque en las segundas zonas parciales no se introducen partículas de catalizador.

Abstract: The invention relates to a continuous process for producing pseudoionones of general formulas (I) and (I') as well as isomers thereof, whereby: R 1 represents CH 3 or (a); R 2 and R 3 represent hydrogen, CH 3 or C 2 H 5 , and; R 4 and R 5 represent hydrogen or CH 3 . These pseudoionones are produced by reacting an aldehyde of formula (II) with an excess of a ketone of general formula (III), whereby R 1 , R 2 and R 3 have the aforementioned meanings, in the presence of water and alkali hydroxide at an increased temperature and in a homogeneous solution. The inventive process is characterized in that: a) the intermixing of the homogeneous solution consisting of aldehyde, ketone and aqueous alkali lye occurs at a temperature ranging from 10 to 120° C.; b) the undissolved water and alkali hydroxide contained in the reaction mixture are subsequently separated out; c) while avoiding back mixing, the homogeneous reaction mixture is then guided through a reactor, which permits a residence time ranging from 2 to 300 minutes, at a temperature that is 10 to 120° C. higher than the boiling point of the lowest-boiling component and under a vapor pressure p ranging from 10 6 to 10 7 Pa; d) the reaction mixture is cooled by expansion; e) ketone is removed from the reaction mixture using vapor flowing in the opposite direction and; f) the raw product is dried and rid from excessive aldehyde and secondary components via a rectification column.
