Abstract: To prepare thermoplastic moulding compositions from pulverulent polyphenylene ethers and vinyl-aromatic polymers by melt extrusion, the pulverulent polyphenylene ether is first compacted and/or sintered under pressure and optionally at elevated temperature, preferably under a pressure corresponding to a linear force of from 1 to 100 kN/cm, to give a porous compact. The compact is then fed, in the form of agglomerates having a particle size of from 0.5 mm to about 20 mm, into an extruder or the like, mixed with the vinyl-aromatic polymer and optionally further components, and melted. In this way, the fines content of the polyphenylene ether is significantly reduced, so that there is virtually no longer any danger of dust explosions. Further advantages are better meterability and reduced electrostatic charging of the agglomerates. The extruded moulding compositions are distinguished by good mechanical properties and high thermal stability.

Abstract: Ascorbic acid granules for direct tableting are prepared by the compacting method, wherein the ascorbic acid in the form of crystals or crystal fragments, of which not more than 40% by weight have a longest particle diameter of less than 50 mu m and not more than 15% by weight have a longest particle diameter greater than 500 mu m, and as a mixture with from 0.8 to 8% by weight of soluble polyvinylpyrrolidone having a water content of from 0.3 to 5% is compacted in a conventional manner, and the product is comminuted.

Abstract: Preparation of a solid sodium formate preparation comprises (i) preparing an aqueous solution, which exhibits formic acid, sodium formate and water; (ii) subjecting the aqueous solution to crystallization and separating a solid phase from mother liquor; (iii) supplying the mother liquor during the production of the aqueous solution, to a distilling device; (iv) mixing the mother liquor with a sodium-containing base to form a mixture containing sodium formate and formic acid; (v) mixing the mixture with formic acid; and (vi) removing the water by withdrawing from the distilling device. Preparation of a solid sodium formate preparation with a content of at least 35 wt.% of formic acid, comprises: (i) at increased temperature, preparing an aqueous solution, which exhibits a molar ratio of formic acid and sodium formate of more than 1.5:1 and a molar ratio of formic acid and water of at least 1.1:1; (ii) subjecting the aqueous solution to crystallization and separating a solid phase from mother liquor; (iii) supplying the mother liquor, optionally after removal of a partial quantity of the mother liquor, during the production of the aqueous solution, to a distilling device; (iv) mixing the mother liquor with a sodium-containing base to form a mixture containing sodium formate and formic acid; (v) mixing the mixture with formic acid under receipt of the aqueous solution; and (vi) removing the water that is not needed for the production of the aqueous solution, by withdrawing from the distilling device.
