Abstract: Leather is produced by a process comprising at least two of the following process steps A) to D): A) use of one or more polyelectrolytes in the production of semifinished products or intermediate products, comprising the addition of one or more polyelectrolytes in at least one of the steps (a) to (d) (a) together with from 0 to 1.5% by weight, based on the salted weight, of lime, immediately before or during liming, (b) before or during deliming, (c) before or during bating, (d) together with, altogether, from 0 to 3% by weight, based on the pelt weight, of alkali metal or alkaline earth metal salt, immediately before or during pickling; B) treatment of the hides during liming in an aqueous liquor with one or more compounds of the formula B.1 or the corresponding alkali metal, alkaline earth metal, ammonium or phosphonium salts thereof, R 10 and X 1 to X 4 having the meanings stated in the description, with the proviso that at least two mercapto groups are present in the compound or the compounds B.1; C) use of degreasing agents of the formula C.1 for degreasing pelts, hides or other intermediate stages and semifinished products in leather production, n and R 16 to R 21 having the meanings stated in the description; D) tanning with the use of a tanning agent which can be prepared by reacting at least one aldehyde of the formula D.1, with at least one further identical or different aldehyde of the formula D.1 in the presence of an acidic catalyst and optionally in the presence of at least one further carbonyl compound of the formula D.2 Z and R 22 to R 25 having the meanings stated in the description, with the proviso that, when Z corresponds to a single chemical bond or a radical without alpha-hydrogen atoms, at least one further aldehyde of the formula D.1, in which Z contains alpha-hydrogen atoms, or at least one further carbonyl compound of the formula D.2 is present.

Abstract: A process for the preparation of polyalkenylsuccinimide products, in particular polyisobutenylsuccinimide products, is proposed, in which a polyalkene is reacted with a maleic acid, maleic anhydride or a functional derivative thereof to give a polyalkenylsuccinic anhydride and the polyalkenylsuccinic anhydride is then reacted with an oligoamine or polyamine, the polyalkenylsuccinic anhydride either (a) first being reacted with an alcohol or phenol and, without isolation of the reaction product, then with the oligoamine or polyamine, or (b) the polyalkenylsuccinic anhydride being reacted with the oligoamine or polyamine in the presence of an alcohol or phenol and (c) if desired, the alcohol or the phenol then being removed. Novel polyalkenylsuccinimide products, in particular polyisobutenylsuccinimide products, and fuel additives are also proposed.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method for producing a three-dimensional molded part that comprises a carrier produced from a thermoplastic polymer and a leather layer applied on said carrier. Said leather and said thermoplastic polymer are linked by means of a tool that has a molding surface on which the leather comes to rest at a pressure of at least 50 bar, preferably of more than 100 bar, especially more than 180 bar, and at a temperature of more than 100 DEG C, preferably 180 to 280 DEG C, especially 200 to 250 DEG C, with the molding surface of the tool that rests against the leather being tempered. The invention provides a method for intimately linking the carrier and the leather layer. The molded articles produced by the inventive method have a substantially improved resistance to the effects of temperature or moisture variations.

Abstract: The invention relates to ampiphilic compounds and mixtures thereof, methods for production and use thereof in oil-in-water emulsions. The compounds are made up of a lipophilic and a hydrophilic part. Both parts are linked together by means of a linker derived from succinic acid. The lipophilic part is formed from a polyisobutylene group with a number-average molecular weight Mn of 300 to 10000. The hydrophilic part is characterised in preferably having two polyethylene glycol chains which can be produced by reaction of OH, -N(H)- and/or -NH2 with ethylene oxide. A globular non-linear structure for the hydrophilic part is thus achieved, such that the hydrophilic character of said compounds predominates and makes the same particularly suitable for oil-in-water emulsions. The invention further relates to preparations for the treatment of metal surfaces, in particular for corrosion protection, comprising at least one said compound, at least one solvent which can dissolve, disperse or emulsify said compound(s) and optionally further components. Furthermore, a method for treatment of metal surfaces by bringing the metal surface into contact with said preparation and coated metal surfaces are disclosed.

Abstract: Statistical propylene copolymers with 2-10C alk-1-ene comonomer (alkene) units are claimed, obtained by polymerisation of propylene and alkene at 50-100 degrees C and 15-40 bar with a mean residence time of 0.5-5 hrs., in presence of a Ziegler-Natta catalyst with: (a) a titanium-containing solid component containing a magnesium compound, a halogen, a silica gel support and a carboxylate ester as electron donor; plus (b) an aluminium compound; and (c) another electron donor as cocatalysts. The silica gel support has an average particle diameter of 5-200 mu m and an average primary particle diameter of 1-10 mu m, and contains 5-20 vol% of pores or channels with an average diameter of 1-10 mu m. Also claimed is a process for the production of propylene copolymers.
