Abstract:
A valve mechanism includes: a support shaft immovably fixed to a main body of an internal combustion engine, a main arm swingably supported by the support shaft; two sub-arms arranged at both sides of the main arm; a coupling support portion swingably supporting and coupling the two sub-arms to the main arm; a cam; and a roller rotatably located in the main arm. Each of the two sub-arms includes: a drive unit pressing and driving a valve; and a contact portion contacting a plunger of a lash adjuster, the contact portion has a curved surface slidably contacting a flat surface formed in a tip portion of the plunger and having an arc-like curved surface shape of which a central axis line corresponds to a central swing axis line of the main arm in a state where the cam abuts on the roller in a base circular portion of the cam.
Abstract:
A cam follower for operable attachment to a valve lifter assembly for use with a variable cam lobe camshaft in a variable valve timing system includes a housing with a central cavity and a mushroom head with a stem pivotably connected to the housing in the central cavity, the mushroom head having a radiused surface for contacting a cam lobe surface. The cam follower is used in combination with a variable cam surface of an axially displaceable camshaft to obtain improvements in idling speed and volumetric efficiency.
Abstract:
A variable cam system which in one embodiment includes cams having a contacting surface formed by an involute curve, a cam shaft, and an actuator for moving the shaft in a longitudinal direction. The operating displacement of the cams may be varied by longitudinally moving the cam shaft.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a variable cam system of an automobile capable of improving fuel economy and output of the vehicle. SOLUTION: This variable cam system includes a camshaft tightened onto a timing gear to move in the direction of its length, an actuator for moving the camshaft in the direction of its length, and a cam which is fixed to the camshaft to open and close a valve by rotation and whose contact face is formed into a curved face in the direction of length of the camshaft so that operation displacement is changed by corresponding to travel of the camshaft in the direction of length. Abstract:
A system and method is provided for an at least partially variable valve drive in an internal combustion engine. In one example, the at least partially variable valve drive comprises a hydraulically adjustable actuating device which may be charged with pressurized oil via an oil pressure line which branches off from an oil circuit.

Abstract:
An engine having a variable valve timing device of the present invention may include a valve disposed to open/close a port, an elastic member for supporting the valve elastically to close the port, a first camshaft having a first cam formed thereon for moving the valve to open the port as the first camshaft rotates, a second camshaft having a second cam formed thereon for moving the valve to close the port as the second camshaft rotates, a first variable rotation mechanism for advancing or retarding the rotation of the first camshaft, and a second variable rotation mechanism for advancing or retarding the rotation of the second camshaft.
Abstract:
A cam can rotate on a camshaft of an internal combustion engine. A rocker arm that actuates a valve of the internal combustion engine can include a rocker pivot connection point located on a distal side of a valve component from a proximate end of the rocker arm that is deflected by action of the cam. The rocker arm can include a contact point located between the rocker pivot point and the proximate end. The contact point can act on the valve component to actuate the valve. The rocker pivot connection point can be translated such that it is closer to or further from the cam. This translation can be used to vary valve lift and/or valve timing. The cam can have a three-dimensional profile to provide different actuation distance of the rocker arm. Systems, methods, and articles of manufacture consistent with one or more of these features are described.
Abstract:
In a cam housing structure for a three-dimensional cam including: plural intake side supporting parts rotatably supporting an intake side camshaft from above; and plural exhaust side supporting parts rotatably supporting an exhaust side camshaft from above at an upper part of a cylinder head, any one of the supporting parts of the intake side supporting parts or the exhaust side supporting parts is coupled to two or more pieces of the other supporting parts via reinforcing members.
