Abstract: PURPOSE: A drive controlling method of a hybrid vehicle is provided to intellectualize and activate energy application capability of the vehicle by changeably implementing a state of charge(SOC) maintenance method of the hybrid vehicle using advanced information of the vehicle. CONSTITUTION: A drive controlling method of a hybrid vehicle controls the vehicle by applying power distribution strategies corresponded to the state of charge(SOC) domain having the current SOC, by the power distribution strategies of a series and the SOC zones. In the drive controlling method of the hybrid vehicle, as the vehicle drives and the height ascends or descends, the power division strategies applied with the current SOC are changed by the elevation of the height. The drive controlling method of the hybrid vehicle comprises the following steps. The corrected SOC is calculated depends on the elevation by adjusting the height correction value of a certain current SOC as the vehicle drives and the height ascends or descends. The power division strategies corresponded to the SOC domain including the corrected SOC are used to control the vehicle. Abstract: A dual mode power train for a hybrid electric vehicle and a method of controlling the dual mode power train are provided to operate the power train in a compound split mode, in which a first clutch is connected while a second clutch is disconnected in a high gear ratio region, whereas the first clutch is disconnected while the second clutch is connected in a low gear ration region, thereby allowing the power train to be operated in a wider range of efficient gear ratio regions. A dual mode power train for a hybrid electric vehicle has first, second and third planetary gear sets(11,17,27). The first planetary gear set has a first carrier(1) connected to an engine, a first ring gear(3) connected to a driving wheel(5), and a first sun gear(7) connected to a second motor generator(9). The second planetary gear set has a second carrier(13) connected to the first ring gear, and a second sun gear(15) connected to the first sun gear. The third planetary gear set has a third sun gear(19) connected to the second ring gear of the second planetary gear set, and a third carrier(23) connected to a first motor generator(25). A first clutch(31) connects or disconnects the second sun gear and a third ring gear(29) of the third planetary gear set. A second clutch(33) switches the third sun gear between a fixed state and a rotary state. The second clutch is installed between a power train case(35) and the third ring gear. First, second, and third planetary gear sets are comprised of singe pinion planetary gears. In a method of controlling the dual mode power train, with mechanical point where the speed of the second motor generator becomes zero set as a reference, disconnecting the first clutch and connecting the second clutch in a region having a high gear ratio, whereas in a region having low gear ratio, the first clutch is connected while the second clutch is disconnected.
