Date Feb. 16, 1995Reaction products which are suitable as demulsifiers for crude oil emulsions, comprise olefinically unsaturated carboxylic acids and polyetherols and are obtainable by A) condensation of one or more unsaturated C3-C10-carboxylic acids or their derivatives of the general formula I I where R1 and R2 are each hydrogen, C1-C4-alkyl or carboxyl, R3 is hydrogen or methyl and R1 together with the carboxyl group may form a 5-membered or 6-membered anhydride ring, with a polyetherol of the general formula II II where R4 is a radical of a monohydric or polyhydric alcohol or of a phenol or of an alkylphenol of 7 to 30 carbon atoms or a radical of an alkylphenol/formaldehyde or alkylphenol/acetaldehyde condensate, R5 is a branched or straight-chain C2-C4-alkylene group, where different units [R5-O] may be present within a polyalkylene oxide chain, and X is an integer of from 5 to 120, in a molar ratio of compounds II to I of from 2:1 to 10:1 and in a weight ratio of from 25:1 to 1,000:1, B) polymerization of the resulting condensate with one or more unsaturated carboxylic acids I and, if required, further olefinically unsaturated monomers copolymerizable with the carboxylic acids I, the amount of the carboxylic acids I being from 50 to 100 mol %, based on the amount of the olefinically unsaturated monomers, and the molar ratio of the polyetherol II to the sum of the olefinically unsaturated monomers used in process steps A) and B) being from 1:5 to 1:200, and subsequent C) condensation of the resulting reaction mixture, with the proviso that not all hydroxyl groups are converted, and a process for their preparation, mixtures of the reaction products with organic solvents and the use of the reaction products and of the mixtures as demulsifiers for crude oil emulsions.

    Abstract: Procedimiento para la obtención de alquilpolialquilenglicolésteres de ácidos carboxilícos con insaturación monoetilénica mediante esterificado (a) de ácidos carboxilícos con insaturación monoetilénica con (b) polialquilenglicoles, que están bloqueados en sus grupos terminales por un lado, en substancia en presencia de inhibidores de polimerización y catalizadores de esterificado a temperaturas hasta un máximo de 160ºC, destilándose el agua producida en el esterificado bajo una presión de 10 a 500 mbar a partir de la mezcla de reacción, y continuándose después el esterificado bajo presión atmosférica o presiones hasta 50 bar, si el esterificado se lleva a cabo en primer lugar bajo presión atmosférica o presiones hasta 50 bar, caracterizado porque el esterificado se lleva a cabo a una temperatura de 100 a 140ºC hasta reacción de equilibrio, después se reduce la presión a 50 a 200 mbar para eliminar de la mezcla de reacción el agua producida en el esterificado, y después se esterifica de nuevola mezcla de reacción a 100 hasta 140ºC bajo presión atmosférica o presiones hasta 50 bar hasta el ajuste de la reacción de equilibrio.

    Abstract: The invention relates to a method for producing alkylpolyalkylene glycol esters of monoethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acids by esterifying (a) monoethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acids with (b) polyalkylene glycols which are closed on one side by terminal groups, in a substance in the presence of polymerisation inhibitors and esterification catalysts at temperatures of 160 DEG C at the most. The esterification is first carried out at atmospheric pressure or at pressures of up to 50 bar, the water produced during the esterification is then distilled from the reaction mixture at a pressure of between 10 and 500 mbar, and the esterification is then continued at atmospheric pressure or at pressures of up to 50 bar.
