    Abstract: Method for the continuous preparation of beta -carotene solubilisates by brief heating of beta -carotene together with an emulsifier until solution takes place, rapid cooling of the homogeneous solution to below 100 DEG C by addition of water and subsequent adjustment of the required final concentrations of beta -carotene, which is characterised in that a suspension, which has been preheated to 20 to 80 DEG C, of 1 to 40% by weight beta -carotene in an emulsifier is pumped through a heating coil located in a heat-transfer oil, where the temperature in the solubilisation mixture is 120 to 180 DEG C and the residence time is 10 to 300 seconds, and the homogeneous solution is turbulently mixed in a mixing chamber with such quantities of water at 10 to 80 DEG C that a solubilisate containing 0.5 to 6% by weight beta -carotene is produced and is, where appropriate, further diluted to the required final concentration.

    Abstract: Preparation of pulverulent water-dispersible carotenoid preparations in which the carotenoid is present dissolved in an edible oil and the oil solution is present in the form of small droplets, by rapidly dissolving a carotenoid in a volatile, water-miscible, organic solvent at between 50 and 240 DEG C together with from 1.5 to 20 times the weight, based on the carotenoid, of an edible oil and also an emulsifier, under atmospheric or superatmospheric pressure, immediately mixing the resulting molecularly dispersed solution with an aqueous solution of a protective colloid at between 0 DEG C and 50 DEG C to transfer the hydrophilic solvent component into the aqueous phase, forming the hydrophobic oil phase, which contains the carotenoid in solution, as a microdisperse phase, and stripping the resulting two-phase mixture of solvent and water in a conventional manner.

    Abstract: The optical fibre sensor measures the Doppler shift of dispersed laser light using a quasi-elastic light scattering principle, where the light is dispersed by incidence with moving particles. The exit face (7) for the laser light is provided at the end of a monomode or multi mode optical fibre (3) acting as an immersion probe, with an angle of between 0 and 15 degrees and pref between 1 and 6 degrees between the optical axis (8) of the optical fibre (3) and the normal (9) to the exit face (7). Pref. the dispersed light is fed back to the optical fibre (3) via the exit face (7) for coupling to a detector (12), pref. with an associated signal processing circuit.
