    Abstract: PURPOSE: To designate two disk driving devices connected with an AT interface as a master or a slave in local selection or cable selection only by one jumper block. CONSTITUTION: This is a disk driving device connected through plural interface lines including one interface line connected with a first voltage level of a data processor with the data processor. This device includes plural connecting points connected with the plural interfaces lines, first connecting point selectively connected with one interface line, second connecting point which is held in a floating voltage, third connecting point connected with the first voltage level, fourth connecting point connected with a second voltage level, and selectively connected with one of the first, second, and third connecting points, a controller connected with the fourth connecting point which detects the voltage level of the fourth connecting point, and recognizes itself as a first disk driving device or a second disk driving device.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the deterioration in performance in reading the data in alternate sectors. SOLUTION: It is assumed that a write request of data (a) is made to a sector A, but since the sector A is a defective sector, the data is written into the alternate sector A' of an alternate sector region X. Next, when the write request for data (b) is made to a sector B, the alternate sector B' succeeding to the alternate sector A is subjected to reassignment. The defective sector C to which the write request for data (c) is made is similarly reassigned to the alternate sector C'. Accordingly, the continuous data (a), (b) and (c) are eventually written into the continuos sectors A', B' and C' within the same alternate sector X.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the dummy writing method of a magnetic head capable of furthermore effectively executing the dummy write for recovering the write instability of the magnetic head. SOLUTION: In the dummy writing method for recovering the write instability of the magnetic head 3, this dummy write is operated in such a manner that the magnetic head 3 is thermally excited and the write-in operation is executed in this state by the magnetic head. Thus, the write instability is recovered furthermore surely than the operation recovering the write instability made by the independent dummy writing method. As for the method to thermally excite the magnetic head 3, a magnetic disk is rubbed with the magnetic head 3, or both of them are heated from the outside.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten the time till a read status by including a step starting the revolution of a data recording disk by responding to a power-on and increasing its rotational speed, a step fixing the rotational speed of the disk at an intermediate rotational speed and a step reading the control program stored on the data recording disk to store it in a memory and transmitting a preparation completion signal to a host processor. SOLUTION: The recording surface of a magnetic recording disk 10 is divided into an area 10A including a special track on which a control program is to be recorded and an area 10B including data tracks which are to be accessed by ordinary read/write operations. The operation of the disk is started by using the control program stored in the ROM 16A being in a main control circuit MPU 16. There are a first intermediate rotational speed of 4500 rpm, a second intermediate rotational speed of 5400 rpm and a final rotational speed of 7200 rpm as rotational speeds of the disk. The remaining of the control program is recorded on the special track of the area 10A and it is down loaded in the RAM 17B of a memory 17.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate the elementary cause of a thermal asperity by repeatingly perform a one directional seeking operation and eliminating a projected matter while actively bringing the surface of the structural body of a head into contact with the projected matter. SOLUTION: A head slider 20 is inclined with respect to the rotational direction of a disk by the air pressure accompanied by the revolution of the disk. The head slider 20 is brought into contact with the projected matter 52 on the disk 18 at the point of an ABS surface 44 nearest to the disk. Besides, for example, the number of loopings is defined to be two, seeking operations are completed when the loopings are repeated two times and a retry, that is, a rereading operation is executed to confirm whether a normal reading operation is performed or not. When the projected matter is eliminated by these seeking operations, since a read signal becomes normal and errors are recovered, this device can move to an ordinary reading or writing operation.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: To shorten the write time of data or the read time of data. CONSTITUTION: The address of a file AAA which a host designates and an address on a disk 58 are correspondingly stored in a conversion table. A controller reads data based on the address on the disk, which corresponds to the designated address, and transfers it to the host when the address is designated from the host and receives a command for transferring AAA. When transferred AAA is recorded in physically discontinuous areas A and C in the disk 58, a file BBB recorded in an area B connected to the area A is recorded in a spare cylinder (a), data recorded in the area C is recorded in the area B (b) and the address on the disk in AAA is changed to the addresses of the areas A and B. BBB recorded in the spare cylinder is recorded in the area C (c) and the address on the disk in BBB is changed to the address of the area C.
