    Abstract: Preparation of amines from alcohols, nitrogen compounds and hydrogen is effected over a catalyst containing oxygenated compounds of zirconium, copper, nickel and optionally aluminium and/or manganese. Preparation of amines involves reacting primary or secondary alcohols, nitrogen compounds selected from ammonia and primary or secondary amines, with hydrogen at 80-250 degrees C and 0.1-40 MPa over a catalyst at least containing zirconium, copper and nickel. Specifically, the catalytically active mass contains metal oxides of Zr (20-85 wt. %, as ZrO2), Cu (1-30 wt.%, as CuO), Ni (14-70 wt.%, as NiO) and optionally aluminium and/or magnesium (0-10 wt.%, as Al2O3 and/or MnO2). The molar ratio of Ni / Cu is ≥ 1, and the catalyst is free of cobalt or molybdenum oxides. An Independent claim is also included for a catalyst formed.

    Abstract: Diamines of formula R1HN X NR2R3 are prepd. by reacting diamines of formula R1HN X NHR2 (I) with olefins of formula R7R8C=CR6R9, in presence of a zeolite as catalyst. Pref. zeolites are of the pentasil type (esp. aluminosilicates, borosilicates or iron silicates), or are Al silicate zeolites of the faujasite, erionite or offretite type. In the formulae R1, R2, R3 = H, (cyclo)alkyl, aryl, alkoxy or aralkyl; X = (CR4R5)m; R4, R5 have the meaning of R1; m = 1-12; R6, R7, R8, R9 = H or an alkyl gp. unbranched in the alpha-position. Pref. reactants (I) are ethylene diamine or propylene diamine. The molar ratio of amine:olefin is 1:0.05-7. The zeolite catalyst is pref. doped with a transition metal and/or a noble metal and/or a rare earth, or with an alkali(ne earth) metal.
