CONSTITUTION:100pts.wt. polyethylene terephthalate obtd. by the polycondensation of terephthalic acid or a dialkyl ester thereof, ethylene glycol and 0.5- 1.7wt% diethylene glycol is compounded with 3-40pts.wt halogenated polystyrene and/or halogenated poly-alpha-methylstyrene of the formula (wherein R is H or methyl; X is Br or Cl; P is 1-5; n is 2 or more) as a flame retardant and 1-20pts.wt. Sb2O3. EFFECT:A molded product with excellent mechanical property, melt fluidity, heat resistance, electrical insulating property and appearance is obtd. USE:Machine parts, electrical parts, automobile parts, etc.

Abstract: PURPOSE:A molded product having excellent thermal properties, mechanical properties and appearance, comprising polyethylene tere(or iso)phthalate units and polyethylenediphenyl-4,4'dicarboxylate units as main skeleton. CONSTITUTION:Titled molded product having a Young's modulus in flexture >= 4X10 kg/cm , is obtained by molding, for example, by an injection molding process, a polyester comprising (A) 20-45mol% polyethylene tere(or iso)phthalate units and 80-55mol% polyethylenediphenyl-4,4'-dicarboxylate units, wherein part of the diol component is replaced with 0.7-5wt% copolymerized diethylene glycol. Said polyester is prepared, for example, by a process wherein an appropriate amount of diethylene glycol is allowed to form during the esterification of tere- or isophthalic acid and diphenyl-4,4'-dicarboxylic acid with ethylene glycol, and the formed diethylene glycol is polycondensed with the above components. EFFECT:Excellence in moldability.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide the titled molding material having excellent molding property and shape stability by incorporating glass fibers with a polyester copolymer consisting of polyethylene terephthalate units and polyethylene diphenyl-4,4'-dicarboxylate units. CONSTITUTION:A base resin uses a polyester copolymer consisting of 10-90mol%, or preferably 20-80mol%, of polyethylene terephthalate units and 90-10mol%, or preferably 80-20mol%, of polyethylene diphenyl-4,4'-dicarboxylate units (to give 100mol% in total). To the polyester copolymer, 5-50wt% of glass fiber is added to provide a glass fiber-reinforced polyester molding material. EFFECT:Provides a molding material having good molding properties represented by the crystallizing rate and molding cycle, a good shape stability against heat, and excellent mechanical properties.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain polyester useful for fiber having excellent brightness, transparency and yarn-making workability, by a method wherein terephthalic acid is esterified with ethylene glycol and then calcium cpd., cobalt cpd. and phosphorus cpd. are added to the reaction mixt. CONSTITUTION:A dicarboxylic acid consisting mainly of terephthalic acid contg. 4-carboxybenzaldehyde of 100-1000ppm is esterified with a glycol consisting mainly of ethylene glycol until a conversion of no less than 95% to an ester is obtained. Then calcium cpd., cobalt cpd, and phosphorus cpd. in an amount determined by formulae I-IV are added to the reaction mixt. The resulting mixt. is immediately subjected to polycondensation. The most preferred method of the above esterification reaction is that in which a slurry composed of the dicarboxylic acid and the glycol is supplied to yarn, in which 50-150wt% of BHT based on the amount of said dicarboxylic acid consisting mainly of terephthalic acid is present, in order to carry out the esterification in view of diethylene glycol content in the polymer.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To manufacture a surface-metallized molded article of polyester resin by roughening the surface of a molded article consisting of thermoplastic polyester, an olefinic copolymer contg. glycidyl groups and titanium dioxide with an alkali soln. and by carrying out plating. CONSTITUTION:A molded article of resin to be plated is composed of 100pts.wt. polyester resin and 5-200pts.wt. titanium dioxide. The polyester resin consists of 99.7-55wt% thermoplastic polyester and 0.3-45wt% olefinic copolymer contg. glycidyl groups. The molded article is immersed in an alkali soln. at 30-90 deg.C for 1-120min to roughen the surface, and it is washed, dried, and plated.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide a copolymerized polyester containing specific copolymer components, having extremely stable crystallinity and melting point, and capable of forming fibers and films, etc. having excellent heat resistance and flame retardance by melt spinning or melt film-forming. CONSTITUTION:A melt-moldable polyester having an intrinsic viscosity of 0.3- 1.4 and composed mainly of the structural units of formula I and formula II (n is 2, 4 or 6). The unit of formula I can be produced by the polycondensation of alpha,beta- bis(2-chlorophenoxy)ethane-4,4'-dicarboxylic acid and/or its ester-forming derivative with an alkylene glycol, and the unit of formula II can be produced by the polycondensation of alpha,beta-bis(2-bromophenoxy)ethane-4,4'-dicarboxylic acid and/or its ester-forming derivative with an alkylene glycol. The content of the unit of formula II in the copolymer is preferably 1-99mol%, especially 10-90mol%.

The molded article can be manufactured by molding the above specific polyester resin composition with a mold for injection molding and having grained cavity.

Abstract: NEW MATERIAL:1,2-Bis(2-chlorophenoxy)ethane-4,4'-dicarboxylic acid chloride of formula I . USE:A raw material of high-rigidity polymer. It has high melting point and flame retardance. It has higher reactivity than the compound having ester group or carboxyl group at the terminal group, and can be polymerized under mild polymerization condition. PREPARATION:The compound of formula I can be prepared by reacting 1,2-bis (phenoxy)ethane-4,4'-dicarboxylic acid chloride of formula II with Cl in the presence of a solvent selected from 1-8C chlorinated hydrocarbons and 1-2C chlorinated carbons. The solvent is e.g. chlorobenzene, cholorotoluene, chloroxylene, etc., and the Cl is usually chlorine gas. The preferable molar ratio of Cl/ starting substance is 2-4, especially 2-3.5. The yield can be improved by adding 0.1-2wt%, based on the starting substance, of a Lewis acid, especially iodine to the reaction system.
