Abstract: Preparation of at least one partial oxidation and/or ammoxidation product of a hydrocarbon involves partially dehydrogenating at least one saturated hydrocarbon under heterogeneous catalysis and using the resulting product gas mixture for heterogeneously catalyzed partial oxidation and/or ammoxidation of the partially dehydrogenated hydrocarbon present in the product gas mixture. Preparation of at least one partial oxidation and/or ammoxidation product of a hydrocarbon involves: (a) dehydrogenating a saturated hydrocarbon (preferably propane or isobutene) using a heterogeneous catalyst in the gas phase to form a product gas mixture, comprising one or more partially dehydrogenated hydrocarbon, leaving constituents present in the product gas mixture, other than the saturated hydrocarbon and the partially dehydrogenated hydrocarbon; or partly or fully removing them to obtain a product gas mixture; and (b) partial oxidizing and/or ammoxidizing the product gas mixtures using one or more heterogeneous catalyst. The method includes at least one mechanical separation operation so that solid particles present in the gas mixtures can be removed.

Abstract: Acrolein and acrylic acid are produced from propane and propene by absorption/desorption of propane and propene from a gas mixture followed by oxidation, in which no heterogeneously catalyzed dehydrogenation of propane occurs between the desorption and oxidation stages without addition of oxygen. Acrolein and acrylic acid are produced from propane and propene by: (a) separation of propane and propene from a gas mixture (A) by absorption in an absorption medium; (b) separation of propane and propene from the absorbent to give a mixture (B) containing propane and propene; and (c) using mixture (B) for oxidation to the required product(s). In this process, no catalytic dehydrogenation of propane without the addition of oxygen is carried out between stages (b) and (c).

Abstract: Production of propionic acid (or its ester) from acrylic acid (or its ester) comprises: (1) partial dehydrogenation of propane to give a mixture (A); (2) partial oxidation of propylene in (A) to form a mixture (B); and (3) hydrogenation of the acrylic acid in (B) (directly and/or after esterification) to form a mixture (C). At least part of the hydrogen used in step (3) is that formed in step (1). Production of propionic acid (or its ester) from acrylic acid (or its ester) comprises: (1) heterogeneously catalyzed partial dehydrogenation of propane in a first reaction zone, to give a product gas mixture (A) containing molecular hydrogen, propylene and unconverted propane; (2) charging the propylene in (A) to a second reaction zone, in which the propylene is subjected to selective, heterogeneously catalyzed partial gas phase oxidation with molecular oxygen to form a product gas mixture (B) containing acrylic acid; and (3) charging the acrylic acid in (B) (directly and/or after esterification) to a third reaction zone, in which the acrylic acid (or ester) is hydrogenated with molecular hydrogen to form a product gas mixture (C) containing propionic acid and/or its ester. At least part of the hydrogen used in step (3) is that formed in step (1).
