Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide an integral implosion-protected cathode ray tube excellent in the implosion-protected effect and suited for mass production, by using thinner auxiliary plate than the reinforced portion of the metal band and thereby providing 3-ply structure all over the joint portion. CONSTITUTION:The stress per unit area of the metal band made of mild steel is approximately 27kg/mm. at the elongation of 0.4%, and therefore approximately 1,015kg of fastening load is provided multiplied by its sectional area, 37.6mm. . Since the stress per unit area of the auxiliary plate 4 made of stainless steel is approximately 31kg/mm. at the elongation of 0.4%, approximately 1,085kg of fastening load is provided multiplied by its sectional area, 35mm. , and thus the load exerting thereon is substantially equal to that exerting on the metal band 1. The metal band 1 is reinforced by the folded portion 3, and at the reinforced portion, the thickness including the folded portion 3 is approximately 1.6mm., against which the auxiliary plate 4 is approximately 1mm. thick. Therefore, at the joint portion between the metal band 1 and the auxiliary plate 4, the auxiliary plate 4 is much thinner than the reinforced portion of the metal band 1, and 3-ply structure is provided all over the joint portion, so that sufficient joint strength is ensured by resistance welding.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To decrease a beam spot so that the resolution of the central portion of a screen can be improved by forming a long hole in the intermediate electrode at the side of a focusing electrode and one open hole or a plurality of open holes in a portion of at least one electrode of a focusing electrode and a final accelerating electrode opposed to an intermediate electrode. CONSTITUTION:A long hole with a long axis or horizontal direction is formed in the intermediate electrode Gm1 at the side of a focusing electrode G5 of a plurality of intermediate electrodes Gm1, Gm2, and one open hole or a plurality of open holes corresponding to a single electron beam or a plurality of electron beams are formed in a portion opposed to the intermediate electrodes Gm1, Gm2 of at least one of the focusing electrode 5 and a final accelerating electrode G6. Even if a focusing electric field is made to change by changing a focusing voltage applied to the focusing electrode G5, therefore, almost no effect is produced on a divergence electric field, so that it is possible to make an electron beam into a condition of under-forcus in a vertical direction and cancel a deflecting distortion generated due to a strong deflecting aberration in a vertical direction. It is thereby possible to improve the resolution in the whole area of a screen.

This second magnetic field controlling element 21b is formed generally in a rectangular annular shape whose side surfaces facing side beam passing holes 24B, 24R are concave. Thus, the raster of the side beams 5B, 5R and the raster of the center beam 5G can be brought in good alignment all over the picture plane. Further, the spot-shape distortion of a pair of side beams 5B, 5R at the ends of vertical axis of the picture plane can be corrected, and the focus characteristic at the peripheral part of the picture plane can be improved.

Pin cushion type distortion of the upper and lower parts of the display can be adjusted by a pin cushion type magnetic field that is generated by the magnetic pole of the permanent magnet 23, as well as the drop of the end of the distortion of high degree can be adjusted by the magnetic field generated by the end of the piece of the magnetic substance 24. On the other hand, a magnetic shield body 21 is cone-shaped and has notches to evade the supporters 24, elastic supporters 32 are fixed at the center of each side of a large-diameter section 32, pins 33 are provided for the supporters 32 on each side of the skirt 1 of the panel 2, and the large-diameter side is supported to cover the outside face of the frame 23. The supporter 32 is bent and formed with a stationary section 27, an elastic deformation section 29 and a coupling section 28, and a coupling hole for the pin 33 is provided on the coupling section 28. The mask frame 23 is made of a thin plate and the shadow mask 20 can be made lightweight according to this constitution, and the shield body 21 is made thick and the magnetic shield effect can be improved.
