    Abstract: Process for halogenating cyclopropyl methyl ketone (I) comprises reacting (I) with a dihalophosphorane of formula R3PHal2 (II) at 80-200 deg C. R = 1-20C saturated or unsaturated aliphatic hydrocarbyl group or a phenyl or (1-4C alkyl)phenyl group optionally substituted by 1-2 of F, Cl and/or NO2; and Hal = Cl, Br or I. Also claimed are (i) a halogenation product obtained as above; and (ii) the production of cyclopropylacetylene (III) by treating the halogenation product with a strong base, especially KOH in a glycol ether, at -33 to 250 deg C.

    Abstract: Described is a method of separating a catalyst from a mixture of the catalyst with oligomers of vinyl oxirane such as is produced in the isomerization of vinyl oxirane to 2,5-dihydrofuran and from which practically all the low-boiling constituents have been distilled off. The mixture of oligomers and catalyst, consisting essentially of: a) an onium iodide, b) a Lewis acid selected from the group consisting of the chloride, bromide and iodide of cobalt, bismuth, tin and zinc and optionally and c) a donor ligand is intensively mixed (1) with a hydrocarbon or chlorohydrocarbon having 5 to 14 carbon atoms; (2) of the two phases formed, the phase containing the catalyst is separated off; and (3) the catalyst is recovered by distilling off the solvent.

    Abstract: A process for the preparation of 2,5-dihydrofurans of the general formula I I where R1, R2, R3, R4, R5 and R6 are identical or different and are hydrogen or C1-C4-alkyl, by the catalytic rearrangement of 3,4-epoxy-1-butenes of the general formula II II comprises the rearrangement being catalyzed by a system which contains components A, B and C, at from 60 DEG to 200 DEG C., where A is a halide of an alkali metal or alkaline earth metal or an onium halide, B is an organic solubilizer for component A, and C is a Lewis acid or elemental iodine, with the proviso that at least one of components A or C is an iodide. 2,5-Dihydrofurans are intermediates for the well known tetrahydrofurans which are used as solvents, e.g. for polyvinyl chloride, polyvinylidene chloride, and other difficultly soluble organic materials, and are also used as monomers for the preparation of polytetrahydrofurans.
