Abstract: A method for obtaining a bodily fluid sample, including providing a reel-to- reel tape carrying lancets non-circular in cross section along a major portion of their length, the tape having a supply section, a storage section and an activating section spanning between and translatable independently of the supply and storage sections; advancing the tape to position a first lancet adjacent a bend in the activating section of the tape with a sharp tip of the first lancet spaced from the tape; translating only the activating section with a mechanism without activating the supply and storage sections to pierce tissue with the sharp tip; and after the piercing, advancing the tape to bring the sharp tip closer to the tape. The supply and storage sections are respectively wrapped around supply and storage reels spaced apart from each other. Either the supply reel or the storage reel is configured to advance the tape.

The magazine (110) furthermore has a tape release device (142), which is configured to make available a take-up reel tape reserve of the carrier tape (116) on the side of the application position (128) facing the take-up reel (122). The take-up reel tape reserve preferably enables a lifting movement (134) of an analytic aid (118) situated in the application position (128).
