    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain anilines useful as a synthetic raw material for organic compounds at a high recovery ratio, by bringing a condensate of aniline with formaldehyde into contact with hydrogen in the presence of an iridium catalyst in an ether based solvent. CONSTITUTION:Aniline is condensed with formaldehyde in the presence of an acidic catalyst to provide a condensate, which is then reacted with hydrogen in the presence of an iridium catalyst in an ether based solvent (e.g., triethylene glycol dimethyl ether) at 150-400 deg.C under 10-100kg/cm pressure to recover the aniline. Methylenedianiline is formed together with a high polymer condensate of the aniline with the formaldehyde as a by-product by condensing the aniline with the formaldehyde. Thereby, the anilines can be recovered from the 2,4'-isomer, 2,2'-isomer, etc., and high polymer condensates having low availability in the methylenedianiline in high yield.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To prepare the titled compound from CO and H2 in high yield, under low reaction pressure, by the use of a homogeneous liquid-phase catalyst obtained by dissolving a rhodium compound and an alkali metal iodide at a ratio within a specific range in an organic solvent. CONSTITUTION:The objective compound, esp. ethylene glycol, is prepared by reacting CO with H2 pref. at about 200-300 deg.C in the presence of a homogeneous liquid-phase catalyst comprising an organic solvent solution of a rhodium compound and an alkali metal iodide wherein the gram-atom ratio of the alkali metal in the alkali metal iodide to rhodium in the rhodium compound is 1-100, pref. 5-30. The molar ratio of CO/H2 is usually about 2/1-1/5.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accelerate the decomposition and liquefaction of a synthetic polymer in a process for thermally decomposing and liquefying the polymer and to thereby improve the productivity of the process by using a specific catalyst.     Abstract: PURPOSE:To produce a l-indanone compound useful e.g. as a starting substance for an olefin polymerization catalyst by a single-stage reaction in high yield by reacting a specific benzene derivative with a methacrylic acid halide in the presence of a Lewis acid or a strong acid. CONSTITUTION:A 1-indanone compound of formula Ia and/or formula Ib is produced by reacting a compound of formula II [R to R are each H, a halogen, a 1-20C (halogenated)hydrocarbon group, a silicon-containing group, an oxygen- containing group, an S-containing group, an N-containing group or a P- containing group or adjacent groups are bonded with each other to form a ring] with a compound of formula III (R is same as R to R ; X is a halogen) in the presence of a Lewis acid or a strong acid. The Lewis acid is preferably aluminum trichloride, tin tetrachloride, etc., and the strong acid is preferably trifluoromethanesulfonic acid, hydrogen fluoride, etc. The compound of formula II is e.g. p-cymene and the compound of formula Ia or formula Ib is e.g. 2,4- dimethyl-7-isopropyl-1-indanone or 2,7-dimethyl-4-isopropyl-1-indanone.
