Abstract: A pressure retention inflator for an air bag cushion is provided to discharge gas in accordance with the degree of inflation of the air bag cushion by adjusting the gas discharge area in accordance with the pressure of gas applied from the air bag cushion after inflation of the air bag cushion. A pressure retention inflator for an air bag cushion includes a gas ignition unit(2), a gas generating unit(3), a diffuser(4), and a gas flow adjusting unit. The gas ignition unit is ignited through an air bag controller unit. The gas generating unit instantaneously generates high pressure high temperature gas in accordance with the operation of the gas ignition unit. The diffuser generates gas flow by discharging gas generated from the gas generating unit to an air bag cushion. The gas flow adjusting unit includes a gas flow nozzle(5) for discharging gas from a housing which forms the gas generating unit, a pressure regulating valve(6) for adjusting the gas low in the gas flow nozzle in accordance with the pressure of gas in the gas generating unit and pressure of gas applied from the air bag cushion, an inner guide(8) for housing a rear end of the pressure regulating valve so as to transmit the pressure of gas applied from the air bag cushion, and a gas flow guide(9) for covering the gas flow nozzle and guiding gas discharged from the air bag cushion.
