Abstract: Systems and methods provide secondary cell group (SCG) activation and deactivation. A user equipment (UE) in a wireless network may determine bandwidth part (BWP) configurations for a carrier of a primary secondary cell (PSCell) of an SCG for dual connectivity (DC). The UE may move between an SCG activation state and an SCG deactivation state based on the BWP configurations. SCG deactivation modeling may be based on a separate BWP configuration or may be modeled via a separate configuration in radio resource control (RRC) that is applicable to the BWPs in a serving cell.

Abstract: This disclosure relates to methods and devices for mitigating overheating in a user equipment device (UE). The UE is configured to communicate over each of LTE and 5G NR and may be configured to communicate through 5G NR over each of a Sub-6GHz and a millimeter Wave (mmW) frequency band. The UE is configured to establish an ENDC connection with an enB and one or more gNBs. The UE implements intelligent transmission modification and cell measurement adjustments to mitigate overheating and reduce battery drain.

Abstract: Embodiments described herein relate to managing access to 5G cellular baseband resources for 5G-capable wireless devices. A wireless device can monitor application workloads by analyzing communication network performance requirements for a given application in-use or launching for future use along with system-level indications of overall device usage, battery level, and mobility status to determine whether access to 5G cellular baseband resources is recommended for an application. A 5G cellular baseband resource recommendation is provided for an application indicating a level of bandwidth in current use or expected for future use as well as a confidence metric in the bandwidth level indication. The 5G cellular baseband resource recommendation is used with additional device criteria to determine whether access to one or more 5G radio frequency bands is allowed.

Abstract: Techniques described herein may enable a user equipment (UE) to optimize radio access technology (RAT) and radio resources (e.g., bandwidth parts (BWPs)) when communicating with the network. This may be based on one or more factors or conditions, such as whether the UE is currently using 4th generation (4G) RAT or 5th generation (5G) RAT, whether the UE is in an active mode or idle mode, a BWP used by the UE, whether an application or network service requires a certain throughput, a type of application being used by the UE, an amount of network congestion, and so on. RAT optimization may also be based on whether the UE is using a frequency range 1 (FR1) or frequency range 2 (FR2), whether the UE is stationary or moving, whether the UE is experiencing beam failures, uplink (UL) switches, link quality measurements (LQMs), reference signal received power (RSRP) measurements, and so on.

Abstract: This disclosure relates to techniques for quickly recovering from radio link failure in a wireless communication system. A wireless device may establish a wireless link with a cell. The wireless device may detect radio link failure for the wireless link. The wireless device may attempt to re-establish the wireless link using a previously provided wireless link configuration. If the cell accepts the attempt re-establish the wireless link using the previously provided wireless link configuration, the wireless link may be re-established in accordance with the previously provided wireless link configuration.

Abstract: This disclosure relates to performing implicit radio resource control state transitions in a cellular communication system. A wireless device may establish a radio resource control (RRC) connection with a cellular base station. A data inactivity timer length and a target RRC state for implicit RRC transitions may be determined. A data inactivity timer having the determined data inactivity timer length may be initiated. It may be determined that the data inactivity timer has expired. The wireless device may transition to the target RRC state based at least in part on determining that the data inactivity timer has expired.

Abstract: An electronic device having multiple antenna groups for data communication may determine a temperature of a first antenna group and determine a power gain of a second antenna group. The electronic device may communicate using the second antenna group in response to determining that the temperature of the first antenna group exceeds a temperature threshold and the power gain of the second antenna group exceeds a gain threshold. In some embodiments, the electronic device may receive communication link preferences, determine an antenna group that is disposed outside of thermal hotspots of the electronic device, and determine a beam that enables the communication link preferences via the antenna group. The electronic device may then transmit or receive data via the antenna group by forming the beam.

Abstract: A user equipment (UE) includes first and second subscriber identity modules (SIMs), possibly subscribed to different carriers. When the first SIM is in a connected state and the second SIM is in an idle state, the UE may need to periodically tune away a radio from a first frequency used for communication under the first SIM to a second frequency used for idle mode activity under the second SIM. The UE may provide to the network of the first SIM the second SIM's traffic activity pattern and/or serving frequency so that the network may provide coordinated configuration and/or scheduling for the UE device, e.g., in order to make the action of tuning away (and tuning back) the radio more efficient and/or to decrease the network impact of such radio tune aways (e.g., to decrease wasted uplink scheduling and wasted downlink transmissions for the first SIM).
