Abstract: Preparation of bicyclic amidine derivatives with continual removal of water during reaction. Bicyclic amidine derivatives of formula (1) are prepared by reacting a lactone of formula (2) with a diamine of formula (3), during which water is removed while the reaction is taking place. Rx, Ry, Ra, Rb = independently H, or 1-10C alkyl, 2-10C alkenyl, 2-10C alkynyl or 6-12C aryl, optionally substituted by OH, NH2, 1-4C alkylamino or SH; m, n = 2-12; a, b, x and y actually = number of carbon atoms in the R groups, which correspond to values of n+1 or m+1. Independent claims are also included for the following: (I) A diazacycloalkane of formula (4); (II) Preparation of diazacycloalkane (4); and (III) Use of diazacycloalkane (4) as an intermediate in production of bicyclic amines of formula (1). Rx, Ry, Ra, Rb = independently H, or 1-10C alkyl, 2-10C alkenyl, 2-10C alkynyl or 6-12C aryl, optionally substituted by OH, NH2, 1-4C alkylamino or SH; m, n = 2-12; a, b, x and y actually = number of carbon atoms in the R groups, which correspond to values of n+1 or m+1.

Abstract: Preparation of amines of formula (I) is claimed, which comprises reacting olefins of formula (II) with ammonia or a primary or secondary amine of formula HN(R )(R ) (III) at temperatures of 200-350 degrees C. and pressures of 100-300 bar in the presence of a heterogeneous catalyst comprising type SSZ-37 zeolite. R -R = H, 1-20C alkyl 2-20C alkenyl, 2-20C alkynyl, 3-20C cycloalkyl, 4-20C alkylcycloalkyl, 4-20C cycloalkylalkyl, aryl, 7-20C alkylaryl or 7-20C aralkyl. Or R and R together form a saturated or unsaturated 3-9C alkylene bridge; Or R or R = 21-200C alkyl, 21-200C alkenyl or together form a 2-12C alkylene bridge.
