Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To adjust permeability and to improve separation technology by using a microphase separation polymer blend containing an A-B-C three-block copolymer having an elastomeric middle block B and an A'-C' two-block copolymer. SOLUTION: A microphase separation polymer blend comprising an A-B-C threeblock copolymer and an A'-C' two-block copolymer is used in order to produce a permeable membrane. A suitable A-B-C three-block copolymer has an elastomeric middle block B. An olefinic unsaturated compound of specified conditions is used in order to form the block B. In order to produce an A-B-C/A '-C' polymer blend, the two-block copolymer and the three-block copolymer are added into an organic solvent, and the solution is poured in a polar liquid medium such as methanol, ethanol, water, and the mixture of them. This deposition/precipitation treatment is done under strong stirring.

Also claimed are: (a) a starter composition containing (II), (III) and (IV); and (b) its preparation by (1) mixing alkyl and/or alkylaryl alkali compound(s) with (III), then (2) adding an alkyl alkylacrylate in an amount stoichiometrically equivalent to the alkali compound finally (3) adding (IV).

Abstract: A hydrogenated star-shaped polymer (I) has (a) a nucleus of a poly(polyalkenyl aromatic coupling agent) (II) and (b) a number of arms consisting of hydrogenated polymer chains comprising cone shaped copolymers of 4-12C conjugated dienes and 8-12 C monoalkenyl aromatics. The hydrogenated polymer chains comprise a multi-block copolymer with at least 2 blocks of the cone shaped copolymer of the diene and monoalkenyl aromatic. Also claimed is a process for the production of (I) by (i) solution polymerisation of a 4-12C conjugated diene and a monoalkenyl aromatic in the presence of an anionic polymerisation initiator to form a living cone shaped copolymer, (ii) reaction of the resulting product with a 10-20C polyalkenyl aromatic coupling agent (II) or a mixture of (II) with a 8-12C alkenyl aromatic to form a star shaped polymer and (iii) deactivation and hydrogenation of the resulting polymer.

Abstract: In a method for the production of linear block copolymers, which contain at least a sequence A-B-C of a block A of radically polymerizable monomers (a), a block B of monomers (b) and a block C of radically polymerizable monomers (c), the monomers (a), (b) and (c), which are different from each other, are made to react with (1) radical polymerization of monomers (c) with a macro radical initiator (I) of general formula Y-B-X-B-Y, in which X and Y are divisible functional groups upon formation of radicals, whereby X can be separated without fission from Y, under conditions leading to the formation of macro radical initiators (II) which contain the sequence Y-B-C, by selectively separating X and by polymerizing (c), (2) radical polymerization of monomers (a) with the macro radical initiator (II) by separating Y and forming linear block copolymers containing the sequence A-B-C. The block copolymers have the sequences A-B-C, A-B-C-B-A, C-B-A-B-C or A-B-C-B-A-B-C-B-A.
