Abstract: PURPOSE: To provide a cathode-ray tube of high in-tube vacuum and excellent quality by ionizing the inert gas in the tube by means of the thermoion emitted from a cathode, and irreversibly adsorbing the ionized gas by a focusing elec trode. CONSTITUTION: The residual gas in a tube is ionized to the positive electrode by the thermoion emitted from a cathode 2, and the ionized gas is adsorbed by a focusing lens 5 for generating the main lens kept at the negative potential. The inert gas such as Ar which is the main composition of the in-tube residual gas is reduced in volume during the manufacturing process of a cathode ray tube. Because a final acceleration electrode 6 during this treatment is kept at the voltage higher than that of the focusing electrode 5, the ionized inert gas is adsorbed mainly by the focusing electrode 5, and little adsorbed by the final acceleration electrode, a shadow mask, a magnetic shield and a fluorescent screen, etc. Thus, the final acceleration electrode 6, etc., is kept at the high positive voltage in the normal operation of the tube, and no gas is emitted even when the electron beam hits.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To accomplish a plasma display device which gives stable main discharging and high brightness, high contrast characteristics. CONSTITUTION:A priming electrode 5, dielectric substance layer 6, fluorescent substance film 14 are furnished on the inner surface of a back plate 4, while a clear stripe-form anode 12, insulative diaphragm 15, and cathode 16 are provided on the inside surface of a facade plate 1. The insulative diaphragm is made in matrix form and is provided with a number of No.1 parallel line regions 15a, stretching in one direction, and a number of No.2 parallel line regions 15b extending as intersecting these parallel line regions 15a. The cathode 16 is made in the form of ladder, whose longer edges are located in two adjoining No.2 parallel line regions 15b while shorter edges positioned in the No.1 parallel line regions 15a. Thereby the current density of the cathode is enhanced, and a high brightness is obtained owing to the see-through type, and also a good contrast is presented because of viewing through ladder-form cathode. Thus a severance of cathode does not directly cause futal damage.

A glass spacer 15 provided with holes in dot-matrix in correspondence with the dot of the fluorescent material 14 is arranged in the space between the cathode 12 and the anode 13, while furthermore first grid electrode group 16 and second grid electrode group 17 are arranged perpendicularly while holding the glass spacer 15 between them.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cathode-ray tube of a long service life, high performance and high reliability by releasing impure gas contained in pellets after forming a metal coating film. SOLUTION: A flange part 22 is opened to lead a boat 26 with pellets 25 placed thereon, into a pressure reduced container made of heat resistant glass or ceramic, and the periphery of the boat 26 is heated by an annular heater 27. Gas released by heating is exhausted by a vacuum pump 23 through a small- diameter tube 24. The temperature of the heater 27 is controlled by a temperature controller and furnace power source 28. The argon content in pellets 25 can thereby be made to a trace quantity. Specifically, the argon content can be reduced to 2×10-5 (Pa/l) as released gas per pellet in conversion per unit volume of the internal volume of a vacuum container of a device using a negative electrode, so that an initial emission fall rate can be suppressed to 5% or less.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To check occuring of cathode glow discharge concentrically on a small region of a cathode surface by providing a transducent anode to be connected with a positive potential terminal of a DC power source in opposition to a group of cathode elementary pieces through a discharge space. CONSTITUTION:A glow discharge tube for background lighting starts discharge by the properly impressed DC voltage between anode 5 and a back electrode 6 to generate cathode glow on the group of cathode elementary pieces and when the cahode elementary piece 8b, for instance, of the group of cathode elementary pieces starts discharge prior to others, voltage drop due to internal resistance rb between the cathode elementary piece 8b and the back electrode 6 becomes selectively big. Accordingly, the potential of the cathode elementary piece 8b tends to be biased to the positive side than that of the other cathode elementary pieces 8a, 8b... and the cathode glow having been generating on the surface of the cathode elementary piece 8b extends to the side of the cathode elementary pieces 8a, 8c... to obtain uniform cathode glow luminescence with no unevenness and missing on the whole surfaces of the group of cathode elementary pieces.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To enable stabilized display discharge and stabilized scanning discharge to be maintained by providing spaces, which regulate the mercury diffusion and extend from insulating partition walls, around the display picture surfaces of a direct-current-system gas-discharge display device. CONSTITUTION:Surrounding parts formed around the display picture surfaces of a back panel 1 and a front panel 2 are provided with dummy spaces 9 and 10 extending from outer frames 5' and 7' that are, respectively, the extension of partition walls 5 and 7 provided, primarily, for constituting discharge cells. In addition, the partition walls 7' of the front panel 2 which form spaces 9 and 10 are provided with spaces 9' and 10' serving as paths used to facilitate both the dispersion of mercury sprays and the trapping of excessive mercury. As a result, mercury can be homogeneously diffused over the whole cathodes of the display picture surfaces, and the nonuniformity and the variation in the display emissions of the discharge cells are improved.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain memory type PDP(Plazma display panel) which is easy to manufacture and having simple drive system, by facing a plane having a plurality of the first electrodes against a plane where the second electrode crossing with the first electrode is formed through the third electrode and a dielectric material layer. CONSTITUTION:A plurality of the first electrodes 13 are arranged on a glass plate 11 while a transparent electrode (the third electrode) 15 is formed on a glass plate 12, then a dielectric material layer 16 is coated on it and the second electrode 17 is arranged on it, thereafter the first electrode 13 and the second electrode 17 are faced each other to produce a plazma display panel (PDP). Then, a voltage is applied in line sequential scanning system between the first electrode 13 and the second electrode 17, and the parttern of indicated information is stored as a charge image on the dielectric material layer 16 by applying voltage on the third electrode 15. Consequently, a memory type PDP easier to manufacture and having higher reliability and more simple drive system in comparison with conventional AC type memory panel, can be obtained.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a stable emission of display light of a device without causing a deterioration of its brightness throughout the period of aging, by mixing a metal, easy to be combined with a mercury, in cathode materials. CONSTITUTION:A generation of no light emission has been considered to be relating to the distribution of a mercury being combined with cathode faces by constructing an amalgam. For instance, an investigation experimentally of the cathode face with a portion of generating no light emission by using an atomic absorptiometric analyser or the like has resulted in the combination of mercury about 1mug/cm or less with the cathodes face part. And in the cathode faces that continue still emitting a light, the mercury about 2-4mug/cm is combined as a state of amalgam. This result shows a mixing of metals, susceptible of being combined with a mercury, in the cathode materials. In this way, the mercury can be uniformly combined throughout the total portion of the cathode permitting a stable emission of display without causing a deterioration of brightness throughout the period of aging.
