    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and method for applying a coating solution, capable of accurately and uniformly applying the coating solution to a base material in alignment with the stripe direction of the base material to enhance the productivity and quality of the base material, and an apparatus and method for manufacturing a plasma display panel member. SOLUTION: The apparatus for applying the coating solution is provided with a means for detecting the angle θ formed by the stripe direction of the base material and the arranging direction of coating solution discharge orifices 44 and a position control means for altering and controlling the position of the uneven base material on a table 6 or the position of a nozzle 20 so that the angle θsubstantially becomes a right angle. The coating method using the coating apparatus is disclosed. The apparatus and method for manufacturing the plasma display member using the coating apparatus and method are also disclosed.

The inclination of the direction in which the nozzle holes opposite to the extension of the grooves is adjusted on the basis of an alignment mark of the substrate in the position calculated from the nozzle hole position that is the representative from the nozzle holes at least before coating with a coating fluid, the center of the groove situated substantially in the middle of the direction in which the grooves of the substrate are arranged is allowed to coincide with the center of the nozzle hole situated in the center of the arrangement of the nozzle holes, and the coating is thereafter started.
