Abstract:
Decorative finishes and processes for making same are described. The finishes contain a a vinyl polymer, water, a glycol, and activator and optionally color and a functional filler. The finishes are applied to a substrate to produce a finish that may be modified following application.
Abstract:
A process for making a faux finish with a two-part reactive system of materials includes providing a base material liquid of Poly Vinyl Acetate resin and water mixed with a dry powder functional filler and adding an activating liquid to the base material liquid. The activating liquid is a mixture of water and muriate of potash or boric acid product.
Abstract:
A method for re-shaping portions of a coating applied to the surface of a component using a tool including a collet having a plurality of flexible arms with a wheel rotatably supported on each of the flexable arms, a nut and a sleeve. The tool is initially installed by disposing the collet caxially about the component. Then, the sleeve is disposed co-axially about the collet. Next, the nut is threaded onto a threaded first end of the collet. As the nut is threaded onto the collet, it engages and moves the sleeve axially toward the arms of the collet thereby causing the arms to be compressed radially inwardly such that outer circumferential surfaces of the wheels engage and re-shape the coating on the outer surface of the component. The tool, as a whole, can then be moved axially back and forth along the surface of the component to re-shape the entire length of the coating thereon.
Abstract:
A method that allows to obtain embossings on ultraviolet-coated surfaces of panels and the like or of cladding films and also allows to recondition the surfaces and edges of panels of chipboard or the like in order to prepare them for printing or facing, comprising the steps of: coating the surface to be treated and coupling on the fresh UV coating a release element (5) that is not fully opacified or is transparent, so as to allow UV light to pass, allowing partial or total hardening of the photochemical coating, so that the release element can be removed clean, leaving the intended impression on the surface. Full polymerization of the coating is then performed by subjecting the exposed surface to further irradiation.
Abstract:
A method is described for producing a microstructured surface relief by applying to a substrate a coating composition which is thixotropic or which acquires thixotropic properties by pretreatment on the substrate, embossing the surface relief into the applied thixotropic coating composition with an embossing device, and curing the coating composition following removal of the embossing device. The substrates obtainable by this method, provided with a microstructured surface relief, are particularly suitable for optical, electronic, micromechanical and/or dirt repellency applications.
Abstract:
It is possible to give ultrathin and uniform coating on a flexible web in scraping-off type coating. The distribution of pressure in a web width direction is adjusted by a pressure distribution adjusting device when an excess of coating liquid excessively applied is scraped off by a doctor blade by giving relative pressure to a coating surface of a web and the doctor blade after applying the coating liquid that is more excessive than the desired quantity of the coating liquid on the web by a precoating apparatus while making the web continuously travel.
Abstract:
After an aqueous emulsion of a non-tacky or weakly tacky acrylic copolymer 4 has been infiltrate into a moisture-permeable sheet material 2 throughout almost the entire range in its thickness direction, the sheet material is dried while keeping one side of the sheet material in close contact with a non-moisture-absorptive protection sheet 3 having a smooth surface. Then a transparent coating film 8 having a smooth surface and consisting of the dried non-tacky or weakly tacky acrylic copolymer 4 is formed on the one side of the sheet material by stripping the protection sheet from the one side of the sheet material.
Abstract:
A liquid coating is formed by spraying drops of liquid onto a substrate or a transfer surface from an electrostatic spray head that produces a mist of drops and a wet coating in response to an electrostatic field. During spraying, the electrostatic field is repeatedly altered to change the pattern deposited by the drops. The wet coating can be contacted with two or more pick-and-place devices that improve the uniformity of the coating.
Abstract:
Method for forming a cover layer on a disk. The method includes a coating step, in which an uncured cover layer is coated on the surface of the disk, and the average thickness of the cover layer is enough to support to the requirement of a predetermined laminating thickness, a laminating step, where a transparent capping board of amorphous olefin polymer is laminated on the uncured cover layer whose thickness is maintained at a predetermined thickness to obtain a smooth surface, an illuminating step, where a UV light source is shined onto the cover layer to harden and cure the cover layer, and a stripping step, where the capping board is stripped from the cured cover layer.
Abstract:
Smoothing surfaces of a substrate having a profile and irregular surfaces. According to one embodiment, a layer of fill material is applied to at least one surface of the substrate, wherein the fill material fills irregularities in the at least one surface. The layer of fill material is scraped from the at least one surface to provide a relatively smooth at least one surface.
