Abstract:
An apparatus for selecting and detecting at least one spectral region of a spectrally spread light beam, preferably in the beam path of a confocal scanning microscope, the spread light beam being focussable in a focal line, is characterized, for non-overlapping detection of the spectrally spread light beam of the selected spectral regions in the context of an increased number of detectors and an error-tolerant arrangement, in that there is arranged in the spread light beam an optical component which reflects and/or refracts the light beam to a detector and whose optically effective region becomes smaller or larger along the surface, so that by orientation of the component with respect to the focal line and the resulting superposition of the focal line and surface, the spectral region arriving at the detector is definable.
Abstract:
Encoded spatio-spectral information processing is performed using a system having a radiation source, wavelength dispersion device and two-dimensional switching array, such as digital micro-mirror array (DMA). In one aspect, spectral components from a sample are dispersed in space and modulated separately by the switching array, each element of which may operate according to a predetermined encoding pattern. The encoded spectral components can then be detected and analyzed. In a different aspect, the switching array can be used to provide a controllable radiation source for illuminating a sample with radiation patterns that have predetermined characteristics and separately encoded components. Various applications are disclosed.
Abstract:
A disc serving as a spatial radiation modulator has dispersed radiation filters thereon. Each filter has a transmittance or reflectance modulation function of the form sin2(mnullnullpnull/4), where m is a positive integer and p has one of the four values 0, 1, 2, 3. A radiation beam including selected wavelength components is diffracted into an elongated image dispersed according to wavelength. Different wavelength components are focused onto different filters on the modulator and are encoded by correspond filters. Since the modulation functions of the filters are orthogonal to one another, it is possible to extract the amplitude of each wavelength component after it has been encoded or modulated by corresponding filter from the total detected signal during one measurement.
Abstract:
An imaging spectrometer provides a three-dimensional (two (2) spatial and one (1) spectral) image cube of a target. In this apparatus, a diffractive optical element (DOE) performs the imaging and provides the dispersion necessary to separate a multi-spectral target into separate spectral images that are detected by a photodetector array. A lens (or set of lenses) relays the image formed by the DOE to the photodetector array. This lens allows the DOE and photodetector array to be mounted with a fixed separation and the spectral images to have a constant magnification. The lens is stepped or scanned along the optical axis, and each position of the lens corresponds to a particular wavelength being imaged onto the photodetector array. At each position of the relay lens the photodetector array records a spectral image by a process called diffractive spectral sectioning.

Analysis of energy emanating from a source having a focal plane by converting the energy from the source into modulated spectral components simultaneously distributed according to frequency along a flat field, using, for example, a modulator, and then detecting and demodulating the spectral components, for example by a fast Fourier transform or synchronous demodulator with a ruled grating interposable between the source and the detector and a linear variable bandpass filter interposable between the source and the detector.
Abstract:
A radiation aperture system where two sets of apertures are distributed in ring sections of like radius on two parallel rings. As one ring is rotated with respect to its counterpart, one aperture of each ring will align to pass a radiation beam through both apertures. Only a single aperture pair is formed at each unique time, allowing sequential measurements of all combinations of both aperture openings during rotation without halting the rotation.
Abstract:
A computer controlled optical system for automatically acquiring and storing spectral radiance data for a multiplicity of targets. Several measurement modes are available for each target ranging from a single wavelength measurement to measurement over a plurality of discrete wavelengths. Stepping motive means prompted by computer instructions direct the apparatus to a given set of target coordinates.
Abstract:
A scannable detector system for echelle grating spectrometers is disclosed in which a photodetector is positioned behind an aperture plate having a plurality of apertures corresponding to focal positions of the spectral array eminating from the grating. The detector is arranged to scan from aperture to aperture to measure the presence of individual wavelengths in the array. Additionally, the detector may be removed from the field of the plate to permit the substitution of a non-scannable array of detectors and an associated masking aperture plate to simultaneously measure the presence of a plurality of wavelengths in the spectral array.

A power control device for two or more adjustable hydraulic pumps operated by a common driving means with each pump having its own power regulator and a power control device for continuously adjusting the regulator to maintain a desired power value of the pump. A pressure-responsive device on each pump is responsive to the delivery pressure of the companion pump for adjusting its own power according to the said delivery pressure.
