Abstract: A patient mobility system for early patient ambulation. An ambulation device having a barrier is removably coupled to a patient support apparatus such that, in a coupled configuration, the barrier prevents patient egress from the patient support apparatus. The ambulation device configured to provide support to a patient during ambulation away from the patient support apparatus. Each of the patient support apparatus and the ambulation device can comprise a lift device operably controlled by a controller to maintain or control relative positioning of the patient support surface and the barrier in the coupled configuration. The lift device of the ambulatory device can comprise a gas spring having locking element. The ambulation device can comprise patient carrier removably coupled to a patient carrier mount. The patient carrier is configured to cooperate with the barrier to support the patient above a floor surface in a seated position.

Abstract: A system can include a base configured to support a lower half of a human body. The system can also include a headrest elevated relative to the base, wherein the headrest is disposed adjacent to a proximal end of the base, where the headrest is configured to support a head of the human body. The system can further include a back platform having a first end and a second end, where the first end is coupled to the base, where the second end is disposed adjacent to the headrest, and where the back platform has a curvature, where the back platform is configured to support a torso of the human body. The system can also include a vibrating mechanism in communication with the back platform, where vibrations generated by the vibrating mechanism translate to the back platform.

Abstract: A robotic massage machine that includes at least one movable robotic arm having a first end effector, a processor that controls the movable robotic arm, a memory, a first body form having at least a first anatomical calibration point, a preprogrammed initial massage path based on the first body form, and a second body form having at least a first anatomical calibration point located in an analogous anatomical location as the first anatomical calibration point of the first body form. The processor is programmed to morph the initial massage path to calculate a calibrated massage path based on the second body form.

Abstract: A sonic percussion therapy system includes a patient support apparatus and a control module. The sonic percussion structure is attached to the inflatable cell so that the sonic percussion structure moves in response to movement of the inflatable cell. The control module includes a sonic percussion control module and a position control module. The sonic percussion control module independently controls frequency and/or intensity of at least one of the plurality of sonic percussion structures. The position control module selectively raises and lowers at least one of the plurality of sonic percussion structures with respect to a patient surface.

Abstract: A method includes providing an adjustable bed frame including an articulating portion, a data port that transceives Internet Protocol traffic, a touch screen interface, and a controller; coupling a remote-controllable air purification device to the controller in a communicating relationship through the data port; coupling a wireless remote control device to the controller in a communicating relationship; and controlling at least one of the articulating portion and the remote-controllable air purification device with the controller, wherein the controller is configured to: interchangeably receive a command from either the touch screen interface of the adjustable bed frame or the wireless remote control device, determine whether the command provides control of the articulating portion or the remote-controllable air purification device, and transmit a first control signal to the articulating portion when the command provides control of the articulating portion, and transmit a second control signal to the remote-controllable air purification device as a data packet through the data port when the command provides control of the remote-controllable air purification device.

Abstract: A human body support, such as a chair, has a plurality of electrodes arranged in an array and spaced longitudinally with respect to the human body. The array extends from an inferior position to a more superior position along the body. A sensor measures a parameter of the human body that is capable of indicating the presence of drowsiness. A controller has an input connected to the sensor for receiving a signal representing the sensed parameter and has outputs connected to each of the electrodes. The controller detects whether the sensed parameter is within a range indicating the presence of drowsiness and applies a wave of electrical stimuli against the human body in response to detection of a sensed parameter within the range. The electrical stimuli cause periodic tightening and relaxing of proximate muscles as the wave progresses in a direction from an inferior location on the human body toward a more superior location.

Abstract: A roller massage apparatus is provided which enables therapy routines to be performed on various body muscle groups. A frame structure is part of the apparatus and comprises a base frame with a generally horizontal user support member having an opening being mounted thereon. The upper end of a roller structure rotatably supports a spherical roller, while its lower end mounts to the base frame so that at least a portion of the spherical roller extends through the opening of the user support member. The user operates the apparatus by positioning themselves upon the user support member and engaging with their body the portion of the spherical roller which extends through the opening. The vertical position of the spherical roller may be adjusted, and the frame structure itself may be collapseable for storage.

Abstract: A human body support, such as a chair, has a plurality of support segments that are arranged in an array. Each support segment has a protrusion elevation that is independently variable and controllable in its distance of protrusion elevation against the supported human body. A sensor is connected to a human body on the support and senses a human body parameter that can indicate the presence of drowsiness. A controller analyzes the sensed parameter to detect whether the sensed parameter is within a range indicating the presence of drowsiness. The controller applies a wave of varying segment protrusion elevation against the human body in response to the detection of drowsiness. The wave progresses in a direction from an inferior location on the human body toward a more superior location. Alternatively, a wave of electrical stimuli is applied by similarly positioned electrodes and causes periodic tightening and relaxing of proximate muscles.

Abstract: This disclosure concerns an adjustable bed with a deck-on-deck appearance. A concealing assembly is attached to the center frame of an articulating bed, wherein the concealing assembly is situated below the mattress platform and conceals the base frame as the center frame moves along the base frame when the bed articulates. In other embodiments, such as for non-wall hugger beds where the center frame is stationary, a concealing assembly may still be used but will also be stationary.
