Abstract:
A reinforcing underlayment including dry uniform particles evenly applied to a wet bonding material layer on a surface of a substrate. The substrate, including the layers, is then cured to harden the one or more of the layers. A final coating or topcoat is applied to the cured surface of the substrate. The dry particles are evenly distributed onto the bonding material layer creating a uniform surface for subsequent coatings. The dry particles increase the strength of the liquid coatings increasing solid particle density within the coating system and thereby imparting properties not available for the liquid coatings. The present invention enables a user to easily introduce very heavy, dense, strong particles into a liquid coating and allows the user to apply very dense, heavy particles into and onto a wet bonding material layer followed by a subsequent wet topcoat layer which is cured as one contiguous material with reinforcement and underlayment strengthening coming from the added, dry particles.
Abstract:
An apparatus and method for coating glass, and specifically to perfluoroalkoxy copolymer coated glass, tetrafluoroethylene perfluoromethyl vinyl ether copolymer coated glass and a method for manufacturing same. A glass substrate is placed on an electrically grounded support and cleaned with a solvent to remove impurities and prepare the surface of the substrate to be coated. The surface is coated with a primer and an electro-conductive enhancer is uniformly applied to the primer so that the surface of the glass substrate is wet, but not uneven. The perfluoroalkoxy copolymer or tetrafluoroethylene perfluoromethyl vinyl ether copolymer is powder sprayed on the electro-conductive enhancer while the enhancer is still wet. The perfluoroalkoxy copolymer or tetrafluoroethylene perfluoromethyl vinyl ether copolymer is secured to the glass substrate by evaporating the electro-conductive enhancer.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a manufacturing process for quick dissolving products having active ingredients directed to agrochemical applications, such as plant applications and animal and animal health applications. Electrohydrodynamic (EHD) spraying is used to form a product form preferably comprised of fibers that contains a desired agrochemical compound formulated to quickly disintegrate on contact with a solvent such as water. The dispersed chemical is then provided as a sprayable solution. Because the product form contains little or no liquid, significant size and weight savings are gained, higher active ingredient loadings may be placed in a smaller amount of material, and manufacturing, packaging and transportation costs are thereby reduced without impacting user-friendliness. In addition, the EHD manufacturing method of the present invention also permits combining active ingredients previously not capable of effective use together in a single product. Small, low cost and potentially modular production operations may be used to practice the invention, thus enabling production facilities to be located close to markets, and product design specific to local or regional markets.
Abstract:
A film is formed on a planar surface by applying a granular layer on the planar surface by using electrostatic forces, and then finishing the granular layer to form the film. A converting line may be rebuilt to have devices employing this method. A multilayer sheet-like product comprising a film layer may be produced.
Abstract:
Method and device for continuously producing a coherent layer of a liquid/melt of even thickness by means of centrifugal action along the entire periphery of a rotating disk (13, 113), liquid/melt being supplied to the disk around its entire axis of rotation from means (12, 112) and leaving the disk as individual droplets. The means (12, 112) distributing the liquid/melt onto the disk (13, 113) has according to the invention essentially the same speed and direction of rotation as the disk, and the liquid/melt undergoes under the influence of centrifugal action circumferentially a spreading and change in velocity across the disk (13, 113) in contact with the same.
Abstract:
A process for producing products in web form comprising at least two layers, in which a composition emerging from an applicator is applied as a layer to a substrate in web form which is guided on a transport means, said application taking place with application of electrostatic charges, and in which the substrate coated with the composition is electrostatically neutralized before departing the transport means, electrostatic charges being applied to the web-formed substrate prior to coating, by means of a substrate electrode, so that the substrate is pressed onto the transport means.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a method for manufacturing a thin-walled article, wherein a single- or multi-component, essentially polymer-based material (1), such as plastics, elastomers, and/or the like, is sprayed in an elecrical field (E) in an electrically charged state. The thin-walled article is manufactured in the electrical field (E) by spraying (II) an electrically charged material into the contact with a mould (2) set at an electric potential, after which spraying cycle (II) the article is, at least in terms of its appearance, immediately a finished product after its demoulding/releasing from the mould (2). The invention relates also to an apparatus operating in accordance with the method.

Abstract:
An apparatus and method are described for supplying material to a substrate (109). The apparatus includes a member (3) having a surface with a plurality of features (8) which locate, in use, menisci of a liquid (1) supplied to the member. An actuator (4) induces mechanical vibrations within the liquid located by the features to cause liquid droplets (7) to be sprayed. Liquid (1) is supplied to the member and electrical charge is supplied to the member and electrical charge is supplied to the liquid by, for example, an electrode (14). Electrical charge or potential is also supplied to the substrate (109) so that the droplets are directed towards the substrate to deposit material thereon.
Abstract:
A mist is generated by a venturi from liquid precursors containing compounds used in chemical vapor deposition, transported in carrier gas through tubing at ambient temperature, passed into a heated zone where the mist droplets are gasified at a temperature of between 100.degree. C. and 200.degree. C., which is lower than the decomposition temperature of the precursor compounds. The gasified liquid is injected through an inlet assembly into a deposition reactor in which there is a substrate heated to from 400.degree. C. to 600.degree. C., on which the gasified compounds decompose and form a thin film of layered superlattice compound.
