Abstract:
A frame for optics used in interferometers that may include different materials having substantially similar, identical, or as close as practicable coefficients of thermal expansion from the material(s) used to make the beamsplitter and/or compensator without warping, bending, tilting or distorting the optics. The beamsplitter and/or compensator are mounted onto the frame of the interferometer using a three-point method of mounting, preferably using three pins for each component. Preferably, the pins are made of the same material as the beamsplitter and compensator, and all three components are made of Potassium Bromide (“KBr”) or Calcium Fluoride (“CaF2”) such that the optic instrument can operate to scan into the mid or far infrared. Stability in optical alignment is therefore achieved without requiring the optic instrument include only one material. The invention provides stability in situations where it is not possible to utilize a single material for every component of the interferometer.

A liquid sample analyzer includes a flow cell, a light source, and a lamp temperature management system. The flow cell is configured to receive a flow of a liquid sample from a liquid sample source. The light source includes a lamp configured to emit light to illuminate the flow of the liquid sample in the flow cell. The lamp temperature management system includes: an air flow generator operable to generate a turbulent air flow to cool the lamp; a thermally conductive primary housing encapsulating the lamp such that a primary air gap is provided between the primary housing and the lamp; and a thermally conductive secondary housing surrounding the primary housing and configured to deflect the turbulent air flow away from the primary housing.
Abstract:

In some embodiments, the optical system includes a thermally conductive housing and a thermoelectric controller, a plurality of optical fibers, and one or more optical elements to direct light emitted by the optical fibers to illuminate a flow cell. The housing is configured to attach to a flow cell.
Abstract:
A contactless dental device for determining tooth colors includes illuminating means for illuminating with ambient illumination light a tooth to be examined. At least one color sensor for acquisition and spectral examination of light reflected by the tooth is inventively provided, wherein filtering means are associated with the color sensor for at least partial separation of a signal component originating from the illumination light from the signal component originating from the ambient light. Evaluating means for determining the tooth color based on the signal component originating from the illumination light are disposed downstream of the filtering means.
Abstract:
A device operable in a ultra-high vacuum and in a cryogenic environment. The device has bi-stable solenoid motors configured to drive a shutter assembly defining an aperture having a first shape when the motors are each disposed in the respective first position, and wherein the aperture has a second shape when the motors are each disposed in the respective second position. Actuators responsive to the motors are thermally isolated from the cryogenic shutter assembly except when the motors position the shutter assembly to change a shape of the aperture. The device is suitable for use in FLIR and other thermally sensitive devices.
Abstract:
Methods of selecting spectral elements and system components for a multivariate optical analysis system include providing spectral calibration data for a sample of interest; identifying a plurality of combinations of system components; modeling performance of a pilot system with one of the combinations of system components; determining optimal characteristics of the pilot system; and selecting optimal system components from among the combinations of system components.
Abstract:
A temperature insensitive (athermal) channeled spectropolarimeter (CSP) is described. The athermal CSP includes a crystal retarder formed of a biaxial crystal. The crystal retarder has three crystal axes, wherein each axis has its own distinct index of refraction. The axes are oriented in a particular manner, causing an amplitude modulating carrier frequency induced by the crystal retarder to be thermally invariant. Accordingly, a calibration beam technique can be used over a relatively wide range of ambient temperatures, with a common calibration data set.
Abstract:
An aperture shaped to provide a narrow beam in the horizontal plane but a wider beam in the vertical plane that will provide improved image quality in spectrometers without sacrificing as much throughput as typically experienced using a reduced diameter round aperture along with a method of mounting the entrance slit and the limiting aperture on a transparent block for optical stability and ease of alignment is disclosed.
Abstract:
A cryogenically cooled imaging spectrometer that includes a spectrometer housing having a first side and a second side opposite the first side. An entrance slit is on the first side of the spectrometer housing and directs light to a cross-disperser grating. An echelle immersions grating and a catadioptric lens are positioned in the housing to receive the light. A cryogenically cooled detector is located in the housing on the second side of the spectrometer housing. Light from the entrance slit is directed to the cross-disperser grating. The light is directed from the cross-disperser grating to the echelle immersions grating. The light is directed from the echelle immersions grating to the cryogenically cooled detector on the second side of the spectrometer housing.
Abstract:
