Abstract:
A lighting device that emits illumination light from two or more angular directions onto a sample surface to be measured, an imaging optical lens, and a monochrome two-dimensional image sensor are provided. This configuration provides a method and an apparatus that take a two-dimensional image of the sample surface to be measured at each measurement wavelength and accurately measure multi-angle and spectral information on each of all pixels in the two-dimensional image in a short time. In particular, a multi-angle spectral imaging measurement method and apparatus that have improved accuracy and usefulness are provided.
Abstract:
Systems and methods are provided for calibrating spectral measurements taken of one or more targets from an aerial vehicle. Multiple photo sensors may be configured to obtain spectral measurements of one or more ambient light sources. The obtained spectral measurements of the one or more ambient light sources may be used to calibrate the obtained spectral measurements of the target.
Abstract:
Described herein are methods, apparatuses, and systems that enable a light weight autonomous unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) to process hyperspectral (HSI) data during its flight and send information to the ground computer via radio-link. This capability is not currently available owing to the severe combination of technical constraints: the typical processing power required to analyze HSI data in real time; the small space and power available for the payload in a light-weight UAV; and the limited bandwidth available on the wireless link.
Abstract:
A colour measurement device includes a measurement array (MA) which includes: a plurality of illumination arrays (20, 30, 40) for exposing a measurement spot (MS) on a measurement object (MO) to illumination light in an actual illumination direction (2, 3, 4) in each case, and a pick-up array (50) for detecting the measurement light reflected by the measurement spot (MS) in an actual observation direction (5) and for converting it into preferably spectral reflection factors; and a controller for the illumination arrays and the pick-up array and for processing the electrical signals produced by the pick-up array. The controller is embodied to process the measured reflection factors on the basis of a correction model, such that distortions in the measurement values as compared to nominal illumination and/or observation directions, caused by angular errors in the illumination arrays and/or the pick-up array, are corrected.
Abstract:
A method and analyser for identifying or verifying or otherwise characterising a sample comprising: using or having an electromagnetic radiation source for emitting electromagnetic radiation in at least one beam at a sample, the electromagnetic radiation comprising at least two different wavelengths, using or having a sample detector that detects affected electromagnetic radiation resulting from the emitted electromagnetic radiation affected by the sample and provides output representing the detected affected radiation, and using or having a processor for determining sample coefficients from the output, and identifying or verifying or otherwise characterising the sample using the sample coefficients and training coefficients determined from training samples, wherein the coefficients reduce sensitivity to a sample retainer variation and/or are independent of concentration.
Abstract:
The present invention is a method of obtaining and isolating sample spectra from a wide wavelength illumination source without the use of filters. The method obtains the combined sample and illumination spectra of a sample and removes the illumination spectrum from the combined spectrum. This is accomplished by obtaining both the combined sample/illumination spectrum and the illumination spectrum separately at the same time and under the same environmental and instrument conditions. The illumination spectrum is then subtracted, wavelength by wavelength from the combined sample/illumination spectrum, leaving the pure sample spectrum which may a single spectrum or combination of two or more spectra from different types and/or compounds in the sample.
Abstract:
Spectrometers and methods for determining the presence or absence of a material in proximity to and/or combined with another material are provided. In one particular example, a spectrometer is provided that includes a light source, a detector and an optical system. In this implementation, the light source is configured to provide an excitation incident beam. The detector is configured to detect a spectroscopy signal. The optical system is configured to direct the excitation incident beam toward a sample at a non-zero angle from a zero-angle reference. The optical system is further configured to receive a spectroscopy signal from the sample and provide the spectroscopy signal to the detector. The detector is configured to remove a spectral interference component of the spectroscopy signal.

A method and apparatus for testing materials for testing materials using infrared spectrometry. Calibration of an infrared spectrometer for use in testing materials including the steps of: selecting variables which have the potential to influence the physical characteristics of a composite used in the aerospace industry, selecting values for each variable and inputting the variable and values into a design of experiments model, thereby obtaining a sample test matrix.
