Abstract: A compression-release brake system is provided that includes a lost motion exhaust rocker assembly, an actuation piston, and a reset device. The actuation piston includes an actuation piston body that is slidably received by the rocker arm to define a piston cavity in the rocker arm and is movable between piston retracted and extended positions. The actuation piston is configured to be operatively associated with the exhaust valve to permit unseating of the exhaust valve from the seated state. An actuation piston check valve is configured to move between closed and open positions to permit hydraulic fluid flow through an actuation piston communication port to the piston cavity. The reset device includes a reset check valve and a reset pressure control spring for applying a biasing force to the reset check valve to urge the reset check valve toward an open position.

Phaser positioning control is improved by reducing inaccuracies resulting from inadvertent spool valve and/or phaser movement when the spool valve is commanded between regions. In addition, improved spool valve mapping is used to render phaser commands more consistent and robust.

Abstract: A variable valve lift system may include a roller finger follower having an end connected with a valve and a roller mounted thereto. A hydraulic lash adjuster supports another end of the roller finger follower and has operating modes which are changed to a high lift mode or a low lift mode according to supplied hydraulic pressure to change a height of the hydraulic lash adjuster. A hydraulic pressure supplying portion supplies the hydraulic pressure to the hydraulic lash adjuster. A cam is mounted to a camshaft and contacts the roller of the roller finger follower. The cam has a first ramp and a second ramp formed thereon.

Abstract: A modified rocker assembly having an offset end is designed for engine heads having an obstruction preventing use of a symmetric switching rocker arm. The modified rocker assembly has an obstructed side and a non-obstructed side and has an outer structure with a first end, and an inner rocker structure fitting within the outer structure, the inner structure also having a first end. The modified rocker assembly has an axle pivotally connecting the first ends of inner structure to the outer structure, such that the inner structure pivots within the outer structure around the axle. At least one torsion spring on one side of the axle rotationally biases the inner structure relative to the outer structure. The outer structure is offset on the obstructed side as it extends from the second end toward the first end, creating the first offset portion to provide additional clearance on the obstructed side.

Abstract: A variable valve gear for an internal combustion engine includes: a cam base portion integrally or separately provided in a camshaft, and immovably fixed to the camshaft; a cam lobe portion connected to the cam base portion so as to swing and shift between a first state where the cam lobe portion is positioned to project from an outer circumference of the base portion and a second state where the cam lobe portion is positioned to be lower than the cam base portion in the first state; a lock mechanism locking the cam lobe portion in the first and second state; and a biasing member biasing the cam lobe portion to be shifted to the first state, to such an extent that the cam lobe portion is shifted to the second state by reaction force from a cam follower when the locking mechanism is unlocked.

Abstract: A dual-lobed cam for a camshaft of an internal combustion engine is presented herein. The camshaft includes an elongated shaft rotationally disposed in relation to a crankshaft via a timing assembly. The dual-lobed cam includes an enlarged base circle region circumferentially disposed around the camshaft, with two oppositely disposed lobes extending therefrom. The lobes define lift regions off of the base circle which drivingly engage a valve assembly. The camshaft disclosed herein may include a rotational speed of one-fourth the rotational speed of a crankshaft or crankshaft sprocket, thereby preserving power and increasing efficiency of the overall engine.
