Abstract: A multiple variable valve lift apparatus includes a first moving cam, the first moving cam provided to rotate together with the camshaft and move in an axial direction of the camshaft, a plurality of cams realizing different valve lifts relative to each other, a second moving cam provided to rotate together with the camshaft and move in an axial direction of the camshaft, and forming a second cam guide protrusion and a plurality of cams realizing different valve lifts relative to each other, a first operating unit, a second operating unit, a controller, and a valve opening/closing unit, wherein at least two pins are respectively disposed at the first operating unit and the second operating unit so as to guide the first cam guide protrusion and the second cam guide protrusion, and an interference preventing pin formed to have a relatively large diameter in comparison with the other pin.

Abstract: A switchable rocker arm for valve deactivation is provided for a valve train of an internal combustion engine. The switchable rocker arm includes a cam lever assembly, a valve lever assembly, and a hydraulically actuated coupling assembly that is radially arranged between the cam lever and valve lever assemblies. The coupling assembly includes a shuttle pin, a locking pin with a round or flat locking interface, and optional shuttle pin and locking pin sleeves. In a first, locked position, the rotational motion of a camshaft is translated to linear motion of an engine valve. In a second, unlocked position, the cam lever assembly rotates about the valve lever assembly, facilitating valve deactivation. A pivot joint arranged between the cam lever and valve lever assemblies facilitates an arcuate lost motion of the cam lever assembly. An integrated arrangement for one or more lost motion springs offers packaging and functional advantages.

Abstract: A hybrid vehicle includes a controller that executes catalyst warm-up control for warming up a catalyst, including first control that operates an internal combustion engine at a first operating point, and second control, after executing the first control, that operates the engine at a second operating point irrespective of driving force required to propel the vehicle. Engine output at the second point is larger than engine output at the first point. Ignition timing of the engine at the time when the first control is executed is controlled to a retarded side with respect to an ignition timing of the engine at the time when the second control is executed. When the second control is executed, at least one of a valve lift of an intake valve and a valve operating angle of the intake valve increases as charging of an electrical storage device is more limited.

Abstract: The present invention is capable of more smoothly changing a phase of a cam shaft in a rotation direction. A variable valve mechanism changes an opening/closing timing of an intake valve or an exhaust valve in response to an engine rotation speed. The variable valve mechanism includes: a cam sprocket which rotates in response to a rotation of a crank shaft; an intake cam shaft which is integrated with an intake cam and is provided to be rotatable relatively to the cam sprocket; and a link member that transmits a rotation from the cam sprocket to the intake cam shaft. The link member is supported by the cam sprocket to be swingable and swings in response to a change in rotation speed of the cam sprocket to rotate the intake cam shaft relatively to the cam sprocket.

Abstract: A valve gear for an engine includes a camshaft including a cam, a rocker shaft, and a first rocker arm which swings when pressed by the cam. The valve gear includes a spring, which biases the first rocker arm and a second rocker arm which presses an intake valve or an exhaust valve, in a return direction. The valve gear includes a first pin hole of the first rocker arm, a second pin hole and a third pin hole of the second rocker arm, a first switch pin, a second switch pin, a third switch pin, and a switch which switches between a connected state and a non-connected state of the switch pins. The second rocker arm includes a stopper against which the first rocker arm abuts. When the first rocker arm abuts against the stopper, all of the pin holes are located on the same axis.

Abstract: A variable valve operating system assembled in an engine includes a first rocker arm contacting with a valve, a second rocker arm no contacting with any valve, a lost motion spring bringing the second rocker arm into contact with a cam, and switching device for switching the first/second rocker arms to a coupled or uncoupled state. An operation control apparatus for the engine includes element for determining whether or not an engine speed is higher than a first speed at which supply of fuel is allowed to be temporarily stopped, and element for setting a requested quantity of increase/decrease in internal resistance of the engine. When the engine speed is higher than the first speed and an accelerator opening degree is 0%, the switching device switches the first/second rocker arms to the coupled or uncoupled state based on the requested quantity.
