A fluidized-bed coating method includes: immersing at least part of a workpiece in a powder coating material contained in a fluidized-bed vessel while air is introduced from a bottom of the fluidized-bed vessel at an average air flow rate of 5 mm/min or higher and 20 mm/min or lower per unit area of the bottom so that a floating ratio of the powder coating material is 5% or higher and 20% or lower, the workpiece having a temperature higher than or equal to a softening temperature of the powder coating material and lower than or equal to a melting temperature of the powder coating material; taking the workpiece out of the powder coating material; and heating the powder coating material attached to the workpiece.

A device for applying a free-flowing medium to a continuously conveyed web, wherein the medium can be transferred to the web by a continuously rotating transfer (gravure) roll. An application head is provided in order to transfer the free-flowing medium to the circumference of the gravure roll. The application head includes a chamber which is open toward the circumference of the gravure roll and has an inlet and an outlet for the medium to be applied. The front outer face, in the direction of rotation, of the chamber is delimited by a front doctor blade and the rear outer face, in the direction of rotation, is delimited by a rear doctor blade. Both doctor blades are seated against the circumference of the gravure roll. The front doctor blade can be pressed against the circumference of the gravure roll by a pressing body with an adjustable pressing force.

An outer periphery coating method of honeycomb structure has coating steps where the honeycomb structure including a ring-like bulge portion is rotated; a coating member is brought into contact with a side surface of the honeycomb structure by pressing a side edge portion of a spatula via a rubber sheet, the coating member including the plate-like spatula in which a specific cut portion is formed in the one side edge portion and the side edge portion provided with the cut portion is an inclined surface inclined on a coating surface side, and the rubber sheet in which a cut is formed so that an end surface of the end portion is parallel to a back surface of the spatula when the end portion is bent along the side edge portion of the spatula; and a slurry coating material is supplied to the side surface of the honeycomb structure.

A doctor blade head for coating a transfer roller includes a semi-cylindrical cavity to enable streamline fluid flow therethrough, and check plates at the inlet and outlet openings for permitting unidirectional flow into the inlet opening from said pump and out of the outlet opening toward the pump. An hydraulic accumulator acts as a fluid pressure and fluid velocity balancing device, and includes a rolling diaphragm piston moving in a cylinder that is connected to the inlet fluid path, with a spring impinging on the piston to absorb pressure surges and compensate pressure dropoffs.

A device for saturating material with resin and subsequently laying the saturated material onto a surface includes a frame and a vessel for retaining the resin attached to the frame. The vessel has a slot sized and configured so that material is passable through the slot after being coated with resin retained in the vessel. A first guide member is positioned adjacent the slot and a second guide member is positioned adjacent the slot and is spaced apart from the first guide member to define a passageway between the first and second guide members. The passageway is sized and configured for the material to be passable through the passageway and out of the device for laying on the surface. Embodiments of the device can be usable for methods of waterproofing and/or roofing.

There is disclosed a method for the manufacture of coating or doctoring blades, wherein an elastomeric wear-resistant material at the blade tip is provided in a continuous process. During the manufacturing, the thickness of the applied elastomeric material is determined by winding the blade (containing the applied polymer composition) into a coil before the applied composition is fully cured. Successive turns of the coil are separated by a distance which is smaller than the initial thickness of the applied composition, such that the only partly cured composition is deformed by adjacent turns of the coil into the desired thickness and/or shape.

An apparatus for applying granules onto an asphalt-coated sheet includes a granule applicator positioned above an asphalt-coated sheet moving in a machine direction. The granule applicator deposits granules into contact with the asphalt-coated sheet along a contact line substantially perpendicular to the machine direction, thereby defining a granule-coated sheet. A granule deflector plate engages the granule-coated sheet downstream of the contact line such that the granule deflector plate rides on the granules of the granule-coated sheet.

A method of defining a pattern of coating fluid on a surface includes introducing coating fluid into a nip defined between a surface of a first roll and a surface of second roll. The roll surfaces are urged together at the nip under a nip pressure and move in opposite directions toward the coating fluid in the nip. The amount of coating fluid metered onto the second roll surface after the nip is a function the topography of the first roll surface and the nip pressure. The first roll surface is conformable and the first and second roll surfaces are urged together. Selected portions of the second roll surface are engaged with a doctor blade to remove coating fluid therefrom, wherein a pattern of coating fluid remains on the second roll surface which is defined by at least one stripe of coating fluid. The pattern of coating fluid is transferred from the second roll surface to a moving web by a reverse kiss coating.
