Abstract:
In one aspect, the present invention is a method for treatment of a painted or glass surface so as to provide improved adhesion of a urethane adhesive applied thereafter, comprising the steps of applying a pre-wipe solution to the surface, the pre-wipe solution comprising an a hydrocarbyl substituted aromatic sulfonic acid and a solvent for the acid which is soluble in the solvent; and allowing the solvent to evaporate. In a second aspect, the present invention is a pre-wipe composition comprising from about 0.5 percent to about 10.0 percent by weight of the acid and from about 90.0 percent to about 99.5 percent by weight of solvent for the acid.
Abstract:
A process for the preparation of a composite sheet is disclosed. The composite sheet comprises a film support and transparent solid fine particles fixed thereon. The support has a surface that can be swelled with an aqueous or organic solvent. The process comprises the steps of (1) bringing the support into contact with the solvent to swell the surface of the support, whereby rendering the surface adhesive, (2) bringing the particles into contact with the adhesive surface, whereby fixing a part of the particles onto the surface; and then (3) moving the support in a solvent to remove the particles that are not fixed onto the surface from the support. An apparatus for the preparation of the composite sheet is also disclosed.
Abstract:
A process of producing a high gloss oxidizable extrusion coated polyethylene is provided. This process entails extrusion coating a low density polyethylene of narrow molecular weight distribution having a low melt index, a low swell ratio, and a polydispersity index below 9.
Abstract:
A surface treatment method of a polyamide resin composition molded article is disclosed, comprising bringing the surface of a polyamide resin composition molded article into contact with water, said polyamide resin composition molded article comprising (C) 100 parts by weight of a resin composition comprising (A) from 10 to 80% by weight of a polyamide resin and (B) from 20 to 90% by weight of other thermoplastic resin; and (D) from 0 to 20 parts by weight of at least one modifier selected from a carboxylic acid having at least 2 carboxyl groups in the molecule or a derivative thereof, an amine containing at least 2 nitrogen atom in the molecular, urea or a derivative thereof, and a low-molecular weight polyamide. A coating method of a polyamide resin composition molded article is also disclosed, comprising, after bringing the surface of a resin composition molded article into contact with water, coating the surface with a coating composition.
Abstract:
A method is provided for immobilizing a semiconductor or noble metal material on a selected support material. In accordance with the method, the support is treated with a first solvent to clean and prepare the surface of the support. A powder slurry including fine particles of the semiconductor in a second solvent is then formed. The resultant slurry is applied to surface of the support. Subsequently, the slurry on the surface of the support is dried at room temperature to remove the second solvent to achieve an intermediate type of bonding between the semiconductor and the support surface.
Abstract:
A silicone containing automotive vinyl, rubber and leather protectant in the form of a solvent solution, a water dilutable emulsion, or as a "neat" fluid. The silicone is an alkylaryl silicone copolymer having long chain hydrocarbon units and aromatic units. The protectant formulation exhibits greater substantivity to organic surfaces such as vinyl, rubber and leather, and possesses enhanced penetration of organic surfaces to which it is applied resulting in an improvement in protection of such surfaces against the deterioration caused by ultraviolet radiation. Treated surfaces are also rendered paintable.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for impregnating a fibrous base material with a varnish liquid, wherein the so-impregnated base material is substantially air free. A base material is passed under the surface of and through a supply of low-viscosity liquid such as to impregnate the base material with the low-viscosity liquid and displace air from the base material so as to provide a substantially air-free base material. The air-free base material is passed through an entrance for and into a syphon. An inert gas is supplied to the syphon so as to maintain an inert gas atmosphere therein sufficient to maintain the air-free condition of the base material. The air-free base material is then passed through an exit of the syphon and under the surface of and through a supply of varnish liquid sufficiently to displace the low-viscosity liquid from the air-free base material and impregnate the air-free base material with the varnish liquid.
Abstract:
A new method is provided to impart a hydrophilic lubriciious coating onto articles such as medical devices. A device, for example a catheter, is first contacted with a polyisocyanate solution, to provide coupling, then contacted with a poly(carboxylic acid) solution to give a coating, and is then finally oven dried. These coatings have lubricity that only becomes manifest upon exposure to water ro body fluids, and moreover, are also long lasting and have good abrasion resistance. This combination of properties is not available from other currently used or proposed coatings.
Abstract:
A process is disclosed for producing a coarse surface on a plastic article, comprising preparing a dispersion of fine crystalline material in a solution of a polymer from which the plastic article is made. The article is immersed into the dispersion, causing a partial solvation and softening of the surface layer coated by the dispersion. Upon removal of the solvent component of the dispersion from the article surface, the fine crystalline material is embedded into the surface of the article so as to create a textured surface suitable for gripping and the like.
Abstract:
The surface of a product molded of polyolefin is washed with a fluorine-containing organic solvent such as CCl.sub.2 F--CCl.sub.2 F or CCl.sub.2 F--CClF.sub.2 and, thereafter, the product surface is treated with a plasma. Since the product surface is washed with an organic solvent containing fluorine, wastewater and process operation can be controlled with relative ease. A painted product pretreated by the process of the invention has a high peel strength and water resistance.
