Abstract:
An apparatus includes a three dimensional array of light receptors disposed within a substrate having a light receiving surface, where light receptors disposed closer to the light receiving surface are responsive to light having shorter wavelengths than light receptors disposed further from the light receiving surface, and where each light receptor is configured to output a binary value and to change state between an off-state and an on-state by the absorption of at least one photon.
Abstract:
A device for measuring calories of food items includes a food item holding unit on which an inspection-target food item including a plurality of food materials is placed, a light source for radiating near-infrared rays at a specific wavelength region to the food item, and a light reception unit that receives light emitted from the light source and then reflected from the food item. The light receiving device receives light reflected from the food item when the near-infrared rays at the specific wavelength are radiated to the food item. A control unit calculates calories of the food item in accordance with measurement values of absorbances of the near-infrared rays at the specific wavelength region which are received by the light reception unit.

A system and method for improving the outcome and consistency of hair coloring is provided. In an example method, an image of hair having a sample color may be received. A color space characteristic associated with the hair sample may be determined. An indication of a target color may be received. A colorant formulation may be identified for changing the hair from the sample color to the target color.
Abstract:
The method is for identifying and selecting a color or a combination of colors. A color sphere (200) is provided that has a first color pocket (238) defined between a first horizontal disc (202) and a second horizontal disc (208) and vertical inserts (212c, 212b) extending between the first horizontal disc and the second horizontal disc. The first horizontal disc has a plurality of organized first spectrum of color cells and the second horizontal disc has a plurality of organized second spectrum of color cells. The first spectrum is gradually lighter than the second spectrum and gradually more gray from a peripheral surface (209) towards an axial opening (232a) of the first horizontal disc and an axial opening (232b) of the second horizontal discs. A first color cell (236) is identified in a first pocket (238).
Abstract:
A method for reducing dimensionality of hyperspectral images includes receiving a hyperspectral image having a plurality of pixels. The method may further include establishing an orthonormal basis vector set comprising a plurality of mutually orthogonal normalized members. Each of the mutually orthogonal normalized members may be associated with one of the plurality of pixels of the hyperspectral image. The method may further include decomposing the hyperspectral image into a reduced dimensionality image, utilizing calculations performed while establishing said orthonormal basis vector set. A system configured to perform the method may also be provided.
Abstract:
A portable system and method for detecting drug materials. A portable system may comprise at least one collection lens for collecting a plurality of interacted photons, a tunable filter for filtering the photons, and a SWIR detector for generating at least one SWIR data set representative of a first location comprising an unknown sample. A processor may analyze the SWIR data set to associate the unknown material with a known drug material. A method may comprise collecting a plurality of interacted photons, filtering the interacted photons into a plurality of wavelength bands, detecting the filtered photons to generate a SWIR data set and analyzing the SWIR data set to associate an unknown material with a known drug material.
Abstract:
A nonvolatile machine-readable memory medium in a mobile computing device includes instructions stored thereon as an application. The application is executed by a processor on the mobile computing device to order paint to cover a surface. The mobile computing device is communicatively coupled with a paint purchasing tool. The method includes retrieving a color value from a machine-readable memory residing within the paint purchasing tool. The processor retrieves a paint quantity from a machine-readable memory. The processor compiles an order for paint including the paint quantity and color value and transmits the order from the processor to a vendor for formulating the paint quantity having the color value when painted upon the surface and allowed to dry.
Abstract:
In an embodiment, an apparatus includes a module assembly and a main assembly. The module assembly includes a module assembly housing, a first face plate and an analysis unit attached to the first face. The main assembly includes a main assembly housing, a second face plate and an engine unit rigidly attached to the second face plate. The engine unit generates a light that passes to the analysis unit via a first lens assembly and a second lens assembly. The first lens assembly is attached to the first face plate and the second lens assembly is attached to the second face plate. The module assembly when attached to the main assembly causes the first and second face plates to act as a single mechanical unit that moves independent of movement of the module assembly housing and/or the main assembly housing.
Abstract:
A method for testing an LED die includes the following steps: setting control parameters; driving the LED die to emit light by applying an electric current to the LED die under the control parameters; detecting the wavelength of the light emitted by the LED die; and determining whether the LED die meets the predetermined electro-optical properties, based upon the relationship between the control parameters and the wavelength.
