Abstract: A method for relief of pain comprises applying skin stimulation along one or two treatment lines traversing vertically the scalp of the subject above the eyes thereof. Skin stimulation may be accomplished by one or several techniques including acupuncture, corona discharge, applying an electromagnetic field, massaging, vibration, subcutaneous injection of stimulating fluids, light, or heating. Suitable head-mounted devices supporting skin stimulation units are described to allow self-use by the subject itself or the method to be administered by a medical personnel.

Abstract: An adjustable-length walking aid provides a hollow tubular body having a top and a bottom. A spring-biased gripper arm at the bottom is connected to a tension gripper actuator filament that is spooled around a flywheel spool. A lamp housed in the base of the body is connected to a power supply in the handle by a conductive filament that is also spooled around the flywheel. The tension on the gripper actuator and conductive filaments is maintained by the flywheel regardless of the length to which the cane is adjusted.

Abstract: Disclosed herein is an improved eyelid care appliance and method of using such appliance for preventing and treating blepharitis and mammalian meibomian gland dysfunction caused by gland obstruction. The method and apparatus of the invention enable restoration and maintenance of eyelid hygiene and the natural flow of secretions from the meibomian glands. A preferred embodiment of the apparatus comprises an oscillating spongehead affixed to the distal end of the eyelid care appliance that is equipped with a video camera, near field communications link, and a display, thereby enabling a user to “fly” the spongehead onto an eyelid margin for self-administered cleaning of the user's eyelid margins. The spongehead can be impregnated with topical pharmacologic or cleansing agents to better facilitate cleaning and therapeutic efficacy.
