Abstract:
A method of curing a wet catalyst-curable resin on a substrate in which the substrate is passed through a treating zone provided by a sealed vapor-curing chamber connected to sealed entrance and exit ante chambers at respective ends. The ante chambers are each separated from the vapor-curing chamber by a wall provided with a passage having height-adjustable means to limit passage of gas. The substrate is passed in turn through the entrance chamber where the boundary layer of air is substantially replaced by inert gas, through the entrance chamber into the vapor-curing chamber where it is exposed to the catalyst vapor, and then through the exit chamber where the curing vapor is removed. When a web provides the substrate, a jet of curing vapor is impinged on the web surface as it enters the vapor-curing chamber at an angle and at a velocity effective substantially to remove the barrier layer of gas and permeate the coating. In starting up the entrance and exit chambers and vapor-curing chamber are purged with inert gas thereby to remove air and on termination of the curing operations the vapor-curing chamber is purged with inert gas to remove curing vapor. Apparatus is disclosed for carrying out the method, featuring height-adjustable doors between the vapor-curing chamber and the entrance and exit chambers. Other features are labyrinth seals and turning vanes adjacent to the passage from one chamber to the other to minimize escape of gas.
Abstract:
A method of forming a dry, cured coating on a substrate is disclosed in which an aqueous latex of emulsion copolymer particles containing a plurality of trialkoxysilyl groups is applied to a substrate to form a wet coating, the wet coating is exposed to a volatile amine to catalyze the curing reaction, and the amine-exposed wet coating is allowed to dry by vaporization of the volatile components present.

Abstract:
Provided is an antifouling sheet having an antifouling layer formed of an antifouling layer-forming composition containing a specific tetrafunctional silane compound (A) and a specific trifunctional silane compound (B) wherein the content of the component (B) is 8 to 90 mol % relative to 100 mol % of the component (A), and the antifouling layer is a layer formed by drying and curing a coating film formed of the antifouling layer-forming composition, in an ammonia atmosphere. Also provided is a method for producing the antifouling sheet. The antifouling sheet is provided with an antifouling layer having good surface state and curability, has a large slip acceleration for water droppings, thereby having excellent water repellency that makes water droplets slip off instantly, and has excellent interlayer adhesiveness.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a process for controlling the period characterizing the morphology obtained from a blend of block copolymers and of (co)polymers of one of the blocks on a surface employing a particular way of carrying out the synthesis of the blend of block copolymers and of (co)polymers of one of the blocks.
Abstract:
Articles having a hydrophobic coating are provided. More specifically, the articles include a substrate, a primer layer of acid-sintered silica nanoparticles, and a hydrophobic hydrocarbon layer attached to the primer layer. The hydrophobic hydrocarbon layer is formed by reaction of the primer layer with a silane compound having a reactive silyl group and a hydrophobic hydrocarbon group. Due to the presence of the primer layer, the silane compounds can be attached to variety of substrates. The articles typically have surface that is easy to clean, smudge resistant, and fingerprint resistant.
Abstract:
Multi-piece, solid golf balls having a cover material made from a polyurea or polyurea/urethane hybrid composition are provided. The cover materials are prepared by first forming a polyurea prepolymer which undergoes two curing steps. In the first step, the prepolymer is chemically-cured by reacting it with hydroxyl curing agents, amine curing agents, or mixtures thereof. In the second step, the composition is moisture-cured. The cured material may be used to make a golf ball cover having improved durability, cut/tear resistance, and impact strength.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a process for the preparation of a composite material, said composite material comprising a substrate and a layer on the substrate, comprising a vapour-depositing step in which a compound comprising a triazine compound is deposited on the substrate at a pressure below 1000 Pa, whereby the layer is formed, wherein during the vapour-depositing step the temperature of the substrate lies between −15° C. and +125° C. The invention further relates to a composite material, obtainable by the process as disclosed.
