Abstract:
A diesel fuel additive composition comprising a mixture of a dispersant and a carrier, preferably a liquid carrier fluid. The dispersant comprises at least one member of the group consisting of polyalkylene succinimides and polyalkylene amines, the polyalkylene succinimides being the reaction product of polyalkylene succinic anhydride and a polyamine, the polyalkylene amine being the reaction product of a polyalkylene moiety and amine selected from the group consisting of monoamine and polyamine. The carrier comprises at least one oxygenate selected from the group consisting of polyalkoxylated ether, polyalkoxylated phenol, polyalkoxylated ester and polyalkoxylated amine. The additive composition reduces injector deposits in internal combustion-compression ignition engines. Diesel fuels containing a major portion of a hydrocarbon-based compression ignition fuel and a minor portion of the diesel fuel additive composition, as well as methods of making and using these diesel fuels are also included in the present invention.
Abstract:
A fuel composition comprising a major amount of hydrocarbons boiling in the gasoline or diesel range and an effective detergent amount of a compound of the formula: ##STR1## wherein R is a hydrocarbyl group having an average molecular weight of about 400 to 5,000; andR.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, hydroxy, --CO.sub.2 H, --NO.sub.2, and --NR.sub.3 R.sub.4, wherein R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 are independently hydrogen or lower alkyl of 1 to 6 carbon atoms; provided that R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 cannot both be hydrogen.
Abstract:
The combination of a fuel-soluble succinimide detergent/dispersant, a fuel-soluble liquid carrier or induction aid therefor, and a fuel-soluble cyclopentadienyl manganese tricarbonyl compound can sharply reduce the formation or accumulation of engine deposits such as intake valve deposits in internal combustion engines. In fact, such compositions can function synergistically whereby the effectiveness of a highly effective succinimide-based deposit control additive can be improved by the addition thereto of the manganese compound, the latter not known to be a substance that reduces deposits.
Abstract:
A fuel mixture containing an ionic complex of an amine salt of a phosphoric acid is effective in reducing the smoke emitted during operation of a two-cycle internal combustion engine. A preferred phosphoric acid derivative is dioctyldithiophosphate. A preferred primary amine component is dihydrogenated tallow amine.
Abstract:
A gasoline composition comprising (a) gasoline, (b) a deposit inhibitor or a detergent containing a basic nitrogen atom, (c) a carrier oil, and (d) one or more compounds selected from the group consisting of an ester of a fatty acid and an alkylene oxide addition compound to bisphenol, a compound obtained by the ester exchange reaction of an alcohol and a triglyceride-type fat or oil, an aliphatic or aromatic carboxylic acid, a metal salt of an aliphatic or aromatic carboxylic acid, an ester of an aliphatic or aromatic carboxylic acid and an alcohol, and an ester of boric acid. The composition has superior heat resistance and is excellent in removing deposits in the fuel intake systems and in keeping the systems clean.
Abstract:
Mannich condensation products prepared by the condensation of a compound of the formula: ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 is hydrogen, hydroxy, lower alkyl or lower alkoxy; R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 are independently hydrogen or lower alkyl; R.sub.5 is hydrogen, alkyl, phenyl, aralkyl, alkaryl, or an acyl group of the formula: ##STR2## wherein R.sub.6 is alkyl, phenyl, aralkyl or alkaryl; R.sub.7 is hydrogen, hydroxy, lower alkyl or lower alkoxy; n is an integer from 5 to 100; and x and y are each independently an integer from 0 to 10;with an aldehyde and a nitrogen base selected from ammonia, lower alkylamine, a polyamine and mixtures thereof. The condensation products and their fuel soluble salts are useful as fuel additives for the prevention and control of engine deposits.
