    Abstract: A lightweight radio/CD player for vehicular application is virtually “fastenerless” and includes a case and frontal interface formed of polymer based material that is molded to provide details to accept audio devices such as playback mechanisms (if desired) and radio receivers, as well as the circuit boards required for electrical control and display. The case and frontal interface are of composite structure, including an insert molded electrically conductive wire mesh screen that has been pre-formed to contour with the molding operation. The wire mesh provides EMC, RFI, BCI and ESD shielding and grounding of the circuit boards via exposed wire mesh pads and adjacent ground clips. The PCB architecture integrally forms a resilient beam portion adjacent an edge thereof carrying a grounding pad. The major components and subassemblies are self-fixturing during the final assembly process, eliminating the need for dedicated tools, fixtures and assembly equipment. The major components and subassemblies self-interconnect by integral guide and connection features effecting “slide lock” and “snap lock” self-interconnection.

    Abstract: Sensitive electronic components can be mounted on a printed circuit board within an electronic device. To isolate a sensitive component from stresses that may arise during an unintended impact event, the electronic component can be isolated using a groove in the printed circuit board. The electronic component may be mounted to a component mounting region using solder balls. The component mounting region may be surrounded on some or all sides by the groove. Flex circuit structures that bridge the groove or a portion of the rigid printed circuit board may be used to hold the component mounting region in place. The flex circuit structures may be provided in the form of separate structures or may be provided as an integral portion of the printed circuit board.

    Abstract: A microelectronic package includes a microelectronic element having faces and contacts, a flexible substrate overlying and spaced from a first face of the microelectronic element, and a plurality of conductive terminals exposed at a surface of the flexible substrate. The conductive terminals are electrically interconnected with the microelectronic element and the flexible substrate includes a gap extending at least partially around at least one of the conductive terminals. In certain embodiments, the package includes a support layer, such as a compliant layer, disposed between the first face of the microelectronic element and the flexible substrate. In other embodiments, the support layer includes at least one opening that is at least partially aligned with one of the conductive terminals.

    Abstract: An optoelectronic interconnection system is for use in optical communications. The optoelectronic interconnection system may include a substrate having a main portion and a foldable portion formed on a substrate of a board for positioning an optically active device connected to the foldable portion. The foldable portion is adapted to be folded with respect to the main portion into a desired optical coupling orientation for which an optical operative axis (OA) of the optically active device arranged therein is substantially aligned with an optical transmission axis (TT′) that is other than perpendicular to the main portion. A holding fixture holds the foldable portion in the desired optical coupling orientation.
