Abstract:
Novel fuels for gasoline engines comprise a synergistic mixture of a detergent additive component (A) and a synthetic carrier oil component (B), i) the detergent additive component (A) comprising at least one compound having a basic nitrogen atom which is substituted by a hydrocarbyl radical having a number average molecular weight of from about 500 to 1 300, and the detergent additive component (A) being contained in the fuel in an amount of from about 30 to 180 ppm by weight; and ii) the carrier oil component (B) comprising at least one compound of the following formula I R—O—(A—O)x—H (I)where R is a straight-chain or branched C6-C18-alkyl group; A is a C3- or C4-alkylene group; and x is an integer from 5 to 35; the carrier oil component (B) being contained in the fuel in an amount of from about 10 to 180 ppm by weight.

A fuel oil containing a conductivity improving additive comprising the combination of: (a) a polymethacrylate, polyacrylate or polyfumarate polymer not prepared from a quaternary ammonium monomer and having a number average molecular weight of about 1,000 to 10,000,000 and either (b) a conductivity improver comprising (i) an olefin polysulfone and (ii) a polymeric polyamine reaction product of epichlorohydrin and an aliphatic primary monoamine or an N-aliphatic hydrocarbyl alkylene diamine, or the sulfonic acid salt of the polymeric polyamine reaction product or (c) a conductivity improver comprising a hydrocarbon soluble copolymer of an alkylvinyl monomer and a cationic vinyl monomer, wherein the copolymer has an alkylvinyl monomer unit to cationic vinyl monomer unit ratio of from about 1:1 to about 10:1, the copolymer having a number average molecular weight of from about 800 to about 1,000,000.

Abstract:
A fuel composition has a major portion of hydrocarbons boiling in the gasoline range, at least 1,200 ppm by weight of a detergent, and at least 2,400 ppm by weight of a mineral carrier fluid. The detergent is a hydrocarbyl-substituted amine or polyamine having at least one basic nitrogen. The weight ratio of mineral carrier fluid to detergent of the fuel composition is at least 2:1. Preferably, the detergent is present at a concentration of at least 2,000 ppm by weight, and the weight ratio of mineral carrier fluid to detergent is at least 4:1. Preferably, the detergent is either a polybutene amine or a polybutene succinimide.

The invention relates to the preparation of organic nitrogen compounds, in particular of aminoalkanes, alkyloximes, alkylnitrones or mixtures thereof, which have only one nitrogen-functional group and no alcoholic hydroxyl groups in the molecule, from nitro-containing reaction products of polymers of C.sub.2 -C.sub.6 -olefins with an average degree of polymerization P=5-100 with nitrogen oxides or mixtures of nitrogen oxides and oxygen by hydrogenation of these reaction products. The invention also relates to particular mixtures of such aminoalkanes, alkyloximes and/or alkylnitrones and to individual compounds of these types themselves. The designated products are suitable as additives to fuels and lubricants.

A succinimide composition is prepared by reacting a mixture of an alkenyl or alkylsuccinic acid derivative, an unsaturated acidic reagent copolymer, and a polyamine under reactive conditions. The alkenyl or alkyl substituent of the alkenyl or alkylsuccinic acid derivative has a Mn of from 1000 to 5000. The unsaturated acidic reagent copolymer is a copolymer of an unsaturated acidic reagent and an alkylene group. That alkylene group can be an .alpha.-olefin having 8 to 42 carbon atoms, a polyalkylene having from 8 to 28 carbon atoms, ethylene, styrene, 1,3-butadiene, vinyl alkyl ether having at least 3 carbon atoms, or vinyl alkanoate having at least 4 carbon atoms. The polyamine has at least three nitrogen atoms and 4 to 20 carbon atoms. The mixture contains from 0.5 to 10 equivalents of the alkenyl or alkylsuccinic acid derivative per equivalent of unsaturated acidic reagent copolymer and from 0.4 to 1.0 moles of polyamine per equivalent of alkenyl or alkylsuccinic acid derivative plus unsaturated acidic reagent copolymer.

Very long chain alkylphenyl polyoxyalkylene amines having the formula: ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 is an alkyl group having at least 40 carbon atoms; R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 are each independently hydrogen or lower alkyl having about 1 to about 2 carbon atoms and each R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 is independently selected in each --O--CHR.sub.2 --CHR.sub.3 -- unit; A is an amine moiety derived from ammonia, a primary alkyl monoamine having about 1 to 20 carbon atoms, a secondary dialkyl monoamine having about 1 to 20 carbon atoms in each alkyl group, or a polyamine having about 2 to about 12 amine nitrogen atoms and about 2 to about 40 carbon atoms; x is an integer from about 1 to about 2; and y is an integer from about 5 to about 50. The very long chain alkylphenyl polyoxyalkylene amines of the present invention are useful as fuel additives for the prevention and control of engine deposits.

A fuel additive composition comprising: (a) an aromatic ester compound of the formula: ##STR1## or a fuel soluble salt thereof, wherein R is hydroxy, nitro or --(CH.sub.2).sub.x --NR.sub.5 R.sub.6, wherein R.sub.5 and R.sub.6 are independently hydrogen or lower alkyl having 1 to 6 carbon atoms and x is 0 or 1; R.sub.1, is hydrogen, hydroxy, nitro or --NR.sub.7 R.sub.8, wherein R.sub.7 and R.sub.8 are independently hydrogen or lower alkyl having 1 to 6 carbon atoms; R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 are independently hydrogen or lower alkyl having 1 to 6 carbon atoms; and R.sub.4 is a polyalkyl group having an average molecular weight in the range of about 450 to 5,000; and (b) a poly(oxyalkylene) amine having at least one basic nitrogen atom and a sufficient number of oxyalkylene units to render the poly(oxyalkylene) amine soluble in hydrocarbons boiling in the gasoline or diesel fuel range. The fuel additive compositions of this invention are useful as fuel additives for the prevention and control of engine deposits.
