Abstract: A process for producing a layer system is provided wherein the layer system has at least a substrate, a ceramic layer, which is applied to a surface structured in a targeted manner, in which process the intermediate layer, in particular the metallic layer, is applied in such a way that the recesses form during the coating. By introducing recesses into a surface, the stresses in the ceramic layer on the metallic substrate are reduced in such a manner that a longer lifespan for the ceramic layer is achieved.

Abstract: An multilayer coated film comprises a waterborne intermediate-coat coating material and a waterborne basecoat coating material both containing a core/shell type resin emulsion (A) in which the core portion is an acrylic resin (A1) and the shell portion is a polyurethane resin (A2), a water-soluble or water-dispersible polyurethane resin (B), a water-soluble or water-dispersible polyester resin (C), and a melamine resin (D), and, based on the combined resin solids content by mass of aforesaid components (A) to (C), the solids content by mass of component (A) is 5-25 mass %, the solids content by mass of component (B) is 45-65 mass %, the solids content by mass of component (C) is 20-40 mass %, and the solids content by mass of component (D) is 35-45 mass %.

Abstract: Embodiments described herein provide methods of processing an electronic component, comprising mixing a bio-based polymer having sulfur-reactive substituents with a sulfurization catalyst and a solvent to form a coating material; applying the coating material to an electronic component; and removing the solvent to form a sulfur-reactive polymer coating that is resistant to sulfur penetration. The bio-based polymer may be made by bacterial fermentation of unsaturated fatty acids.

Abstract: A microstructured article includes a nanovoided layer having opposing first and second major surfaces, the first major surface being microstructured to form prisms, lenses, or other features. The nanovoided layer includes a polymeric binder and a plurality of interconnected voids, and optionally a plurality of nanoparticles. A second layer, which may include a viscoelastic layer or a polymeric resin layer, is disposed on the first or second major surface. A related method includes disposing a coating solution onto a substrate. The coating solution includes a polymerizable material, a solvent, and optional nanoparticles. The method includes polymerizing the polymerizable material while the coating solution is in contact with a microreplication tool to form a microstructured layer. The method also includes removing solvent from the microstructured layer to form a nanovoided microstructured article.

Abstract: The present disclosure is directed to a bioresorbable ceramic composition having a plurality of biocompatible ceramic granules, each of the granules having a coating of a plurality of calcium containing particles, where at least a portion of the particles are bound to at least a portion of an outer surface of each of the granules, and further where the composition is flowable in a dry state. The present disclosure is also directed to a three dimensional scaffold for bone repair that includes the bioresorbable composition, which upon implantation to a locus of repair defines an interconnected pore network between outer walls of the coated granules of the composition. Finally, the present disclosure is directed to methods of forming both the bioresorbable ceramic composition and the three-dimensional ceramic scaffold.

Abstract: A system for creating a microencapsulate coating composition and the method of adding the scented microencapsulate coating to product packaging. The microencapsulate coating contains scented compounds that are encapsulated to create encapsulated particles. The encapsulant can be either water soluble or hydrophobic depending upon the intended application. The encapsulated particles are mixed with a binding agent, to create a scented microencapsulate coating. The scented microencapsulate coating is applied to packaging in areas that will be touched as the packaging is manipulated. The physical contact ruptures the microencapsulate coating and releases the scented compounds contained therein.

Abstract: Provided are reactive compositions for making a polyurethane-based rain-erosion protective coating for rotor blades, the reactive composition comprising an isocyanate-reactive component and an isocyanate-functional component and wherein the isocyanate-reactive component comprises a first component i) being a short chain hydroxyl-functional compound having two terminal (α−ω) hydroxyl groups, a molecular weight of less than 250 g/mole and containing at least 2 carbon atoms and a second component ii) comprising a high molecular weight hydroxyl-functional compound having two terminal (α−ω) hydroxyl groups and a molecular weight of at least 250 g/mol and comprising one or more units selected from oxyalkylene units and polyoxyalkylene units and wherein the isocyanate-functional component is an isocyanate prepolymer of the general formula NCO—Z—NCO, wherein Z is a linking group comprising at least two urethane (—NH—CO—O—) units and additionally one or more units selected from alkylenes, oxyalkylenes, polyoxyalkylenes, alkylene esters, oxyalkylene esters, polyoxyalkylene esters and combinations thereof. Also provided are protective coatings obtained from the reactive compositions and methods of applying the coatings to articles.
