Abstract:
A painted polyacetal article comprises a polyacetal substrate comprising 90-99.5 wt % polyacetal and 0.5-10 wt % of semicrystalline or amorphous thermoplastic non-polyacetal resin of molecular weight 1,000-50,000; and a paint applied to the polyacetal substrate from a solvent-borne, water-borne or powder 1K paint system onto a surface of the polyacetal substrate pretreated to enhance exposure of said semicrystalline or amorphous thermoplastic non-polyacetal resin of the substrate to the applied paint. The paint is a thermoplastic or partly thermoplastic non-thermosetting paint. A layer of thermosetting paint or varnish can be applied over the thermoplastic paint. The painted polyacetal article has improved paint adhesion and good retained physico-mechanical properties.
Abstract:
The present invention discloses an improved cleaning composition for cleaning metal surfaces such as aluminum and aluminum-containing alloys. The cleaning composition of the present invention comprises water and an ethoxylate of an alcohol having Formula R1nullOH wherein R1 is a saturated or unsaturated, straight-chain or branched aliphatic having from 12 to 80 carbon atoms; an inorganic pH adjusting component; and at least one surfactant that is different than the ethoxylate set forth above. The cleaning composition of the present invention also has an average water-break-free percent reduction of less than 50% after 7 days aging of a working composition prepared from the cleaning composition. The present invention also provides a method of cleaning a metal surface with the cleaning composition of the invention.
Abstract:
The present invention is a coating unit for coating a substrate with a coating solution, comprising a coating solution discharge member for discharging the coating solution to the substrate which is positioned in a downward part. A lower surface of the coating solution discharge member is in a shape having a length longer, at least, than the radius of the substrate and having a narrow width. A coating solution discharge port is disposed in a portion of the coating solution discharge member, facing the center of the substrate, while a solvent mist discharge port for discharging a solvent mist of the coating solution is disposed in a portion facing a peripheral portion including an outer edge potion of the substrate, when the coating solution discharge member is positioned above the radius of the substrate.
Abstract:
Adhesion between a coating and a substrate may be improved by pre-treating the surface of the substrate with an aqueous detergent composition having a pH above 8 and comprising from 1 to 10% by weight phosphate and from 1 to 10% by weight silicate, before application of the coating.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a method for producing a fast drying two or multi-component waterborne coating on a surface of a substrate. The method comprises applying a first component comprising a binder and a second component, being separate from the first component prior to application, comprising an absorber, and compositions and/or formulations prepared therefrom.
Abstract:
In forming a resist film by supplying a resist liquid onto a surface of an LCD substrate loaded in a rotation cup, a coating liquid is coated on the surface of the substrate by spraying the resist liquid onto the surface thereof while not rotating the substrate to thus form the coating film on the overall surface of the substrate, then the substrate is sealed into the rotation cup by closing the processing vessel by a lid member, and then a film thickness of the coating film is regulated by rotating the rotation cup and the substrate.
Abstract:
A process for treating metal surfaces to obtain improved susceptibility to bonding with adhesive compositions is disclosed. A metal surface is oxidized with a halogen to form a monolayer of halide ions on the surface. The halide ions are then exchanged with azide ions to form an azide monolayer on the metal surface. Upon contact of the treated surface with an adhesive composition, the azide layer may be thermally or photochemically decomposed to form active nitrene species, which react to bond the adhesive composition to the metal surface.
Abstract:
Method and apparatus for applying liquid acid to a treatment surface according to the teachings of the present invention is disclosed utilizing an acid pack formed in a preferred aspect by stencil cutting a supply stock of a layered assemblage including flexible, acid impervious material, pressure sensitive adhesive, and an adhesive covering. Specifically, a first stencil cut is made extending through the assemblage and a second stencil cut is simultaneously made extending through the adhesive covering while leaving the flexible material in tact dividing the adhesive covering into a central portion and a perimeter portion. The central portion of the adhesive covering is removable exposing the adhesive on the flexible, acid impervious material to allow securement of acid absorbing material thereto while the perimeter portion of the adhesive covering is maintained in a covering relation with the perimeter edge of the sheet for providing support for the flexible, acid impervious material. A pocket for receipt of the liquid acid is created by tightly sealing the perimeter edge of the sheet of flexible, acid impervious material to the treatment surface. The acid absorbing material absorbs the liquid acid and carries and uniformly spreads the liquid acid.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a process for dulling molded block copolymer compositions comprising coating the surface of a molded block copolymer rubber composition with a dulling solution comprising a polymeric binder which is compatible with the molded block copolymer rubber composition, a matting agent and a suitable solvent and evaporating the solvent.
Abstract:
In accordance with the invention, an improvement in the process for the production of a plurality of semiconductor devices from a single substrate comprises contacting at least one surface of the substrate adjacent the peripheral edge thereof with means capable of rendering the coating material into a selectively more easily removable form than the remainder of the coating material. Selective peripheral portions of the coating material are then removed which mitigates the inadvertant dislodgement of coating particles from the peripheral portion of the substrate during subsequent processing of the coated substrate. In a preferred embodiment, the coating material is removed by contacting the peripheral portions of the coated substrate with a chemical which is a solvent for the coating.
