An emulsified water-blended fuel composition comprising: (A) about 50% to about 99% by weight of a hydrocarbon fuel; (B) about 1% to about 50% by weight of water; (C) about 0.1% to about 10% of a minor emulsifying amount of at least one fuel-soluble salt comprised of (I) a first acylating agent, said first acylating agent having at least one hydrocarbyl substituent of about 20 to 500 carbon atoms and a molecular weight (Mn) in the range of about 500 Mn to 10,000 Mn, (II) a second acylating agent, said second acylating agent selected from the group consisting of monocarboxylic agents, polycarboxylic agents, dicarboxylic agents and combinations thereof; and wherein said second acylating agent has at least 1 hydrocarbyl substituent of up to about 35 carbon atoms and reacting said carboxylic acylating agents (I) and (II) with (III) an ammonia or an amine to form a salt; (D) about 0.001% to about 15% by weight of the water-soluble salt distinct from component (C).
Abstract:
A chemical composition of matter comprising a wax plasticizing agent (plasticizer) tributoxyethyl phosphate, a mixture of selected long chain fatty acids (preferably C10 to C22), and a mixture of selected low-surface tension surfactants, which when added in solution to crude oil or refined products has been shown to lower both the B.S. & W. (rag layer) and the coefficient of friction of crude oils and refined products. This chemical composition of matter is particularly useful as a wax liquefaction, dispersant, and solubilization agent for asphaltene and paraffins in crude oil and refined products. The reduction in the co-efficient of friction resulting from the addition of this product to crude oil will allow crude oil to pump through pipelines with a minimum amount of resistance due to friction (drag).
Abstract:
A silent marker, method of marking a petroleum product with the silent marker, and method of detecting the silent marker. The marker is an ester derivative of fluorescent material, and the silent marker may be detected by measuring the fluorescence generated from the selective hydrolysis of the ester moiety under enzymatic action.
Abstract:
An additive composition comprises at least one colloidal metal compound or metallic species and a stabilising component, wherein the stabilising component comprises the product obtainable by the condensation reaction between: (i) at least one aldehyde or ketone or reactive equivalent thereof, and (ii) at least one compound comprising one or more aromatic moieties bearing at least one hydroxyl group and at least one further substituent chosen from a hydrocarbyl group, —COOR1 or COR1, wherein R1 represents hydrogen or a hydrocarbyl group. The composition may further include at least one lubricity enhancer. Compositions of the invention tend to resist haziness, cloudiness and phase separation at relatively low and relatively high temperatures, and in the presence of lubricity enhancers and fatty acid methyl esters (FAME).

Abstract:
It is an object of the present invention to provide a fuel oil composition for diesel engines showing good CFPP and lubricity, efficiently controlling PM emissions and containing sulfur at 0.05 wt. % or less. The present invention provides a fuel oil composition for diesel engines comprising a base stock which has normal paraffin compounds having a carbon number of 20 or more at 4.0 wt. % or less, specific carbon number distribution in the high-boiling normal paraffin compounds and polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbon compounds at 8.0 vol. % or less, contains sulfur at 0.05 wt. % or less, and is incorporated with 0.01 to 0.1 wt. % (as the active component) of an FI and 0.002 to 0.1 wt. % (as the active component) of a lubricity improver.
Abstract:
This invention shows how to make and use a biodiesel-based fuel in diesel engines without incurring the NOx penalty. Embodiments primarily relate to an optimum range of bulk modulus of compressibility for biodiesel blends, which results in generating “NOx neutral” biodiesel blends or to formulate biodiesel blends with lower NOx emissions than conventional petroleum diesel fuel. These biodiesel blends preferably comprise synthetic paraffinic middle distillate derived from a hydrocarbon synthesis to generate synthetic environmentally-friendly diesel fuels.
Abstract:
Esters formed from polyol, C12-C28 branched chain fatty acid, and/or C12-C28 cyclic fatty acid are useful as a friction modifier for lubricants. Monomer is a preferred source for these fatty acids.
