Abstract:
A spinal treatment system for treating a spinal region of a patient's back includes a harness configured to be coupled to a preselected location on the patient. A force transfer member is coupled to the harness and is configured to transfer force to the harness. A vibrational movement head is controlled by a computer and is configured to apply a preselected laterally vibrating force to the force application member extending therefrom. A vertical displacement member is coupled to the computer and is configured to move the vibrational movement head to a preselected vertical displacement relative to the patient.
Abstract:
The present invention is to provide a swinging water massage bed for a user to lie on a bed board. The user can operate a controller to ascend the bed board and swing the bed board through a swing driving unit, or descend the bed board to a resilient layer of a water container. With a water jet device in the water container, water jets out to knock against the resilient layer for the user to be massaged so as to help the user sleep or relax.
Abstract:
A lower limb orthotic device includes a thigh link connected to a hip link through a hip joint, a hip torque generator including a hip actuator and a first mechanical transmission mechanism interposed between the thigh link and the hip link, a shank link connected to the thigh link through a knee joint, a knee torque generator including a knee actuator and a second mechanical transmission mechanism interposed between the thigh link and the shank link, and a controller, such as for a common motor and pump connected to the hip and knee torque generators, for regulating relative positions of the various components in order to power a user through a natural walking motion, with the first and second mechanical transmission mechanisms aiding in evening out torque over the ranges of motion, while also increasing the range of motion where the torque generators can produce a non-zero torque.
Abstract:
A mandibular distraction system and method for treating temporomandibular joint disorders by stretching and relaxing the periarticular muscles of the temporomandibular joint. The system includes a head immobilization device, a patient support device and a facial harness. The system also includes upper and lower mouth guards arranged to fit at least partially around the upper and lower teeth. The mouth guards are configured to operate with a chin strap, sliding assembly, and a displacement device. The displacement device may be actuated to apply force to the facial harness by applying pressure on the chin strap, which is converted by the mouth guards to apply a downward uniform pressure on the back of the jaw, stretching and relaxing the periarticular muscles of the temporomandibular joint. The method of the present invention generally provides steps for allowing distraction of the periarticular muscles to occur while the patient is in a passive, supine position with their mouth closed.
Abstract:
An adjustable bed assembly includes a mattress platform, center frame, a head frame, a truss, and actuators for raising and lowering the head frame. The mattress platform may be made of wood. The center frame and/or the head frame members may be of tubular construction. The actuator may be controlled through a programmable logic controller (PLC). Alternatively, the PLC may execute actuator control according to user remote control instructions.
Abstract:
A portable human body pulsating apparatus has an air pulse generator mounted on a pedestal having wheels to facilitate movement of the apparatus on a surface. The pedestal has an upright piston and cylinder assembly operable to adjust the elevation of the air pulse generator.
Abstract:
A support frame for a CPR apparatus, in particular a gas-driven CPR apparatus, comprises one or more support elements, which can be inflated by a gas, in particular by the driving gas. The support elements have a flexible but substantially not resilient wall. Also disclosed is the combination of a CPR apparatus and the support frame.
Abstract:
A device and methods for automatically evaluating one or more patient physiological parameters and, upon determination that certain therapies are indicated, delivering therapeutic mechanical stimulations to tissue of the patient. The mechanical stimulations generally include vibrations delivered at frequencies somewhat higher or lower than an intrinsic frequency and the therapeutic vibrations are delivered to drive the intrinsic frequency towards a desired value. The device and methods more closely emulate natural physiologic feedback mechanisms and can reduce undesired side effects of other known therapies. The device can include a small and efficient electrical motor which is interconnected with a crank and link mechanism to generate oscillatory motion which is conducted to a flexible wall of a bio-compatible housing of the device.
Abstract:
Low-cost, light weight portable cervical traction or spinal decompression devices for home use by a patient. A carriage is slidable along a portion of a support structure parallel to a longitudinal axis. The carriage includes a restraining mechanism adapted to releasably restrain a portion of a patient's body to the carriage. The pneumatic traction force generating apparatus is operatively coupled to move the carriage relative to the support structure when in a pressurized state. The pneumatic traction force generating apparatus is adapted to maintain a generally static traction force during a treatment period when in the pressurized state without additional pressurized air being supplied. A hand pump operated by the patient is fluidly connected to the pneumatic traction force generating apparatus to inject pressurized air. A pressure relief mechanism operated by the patient is adapted to release pressure from the pneumatic traction force generating apparatus.
Abstract:
A device for use with an exercise apparatus consisting of at least one hanging, length-adjustable and lockable rope (10, 11) which at its lower end has a gripping means (13, 14), e.g., a gripping loop. A vibration means (12; 16) is designed, when attached via a rope engaging member (8, 9) to a portion of such rope, to impart to the rope and thus its gripping means (13, 14) a vibratory motion.
