Abstract: A mobility device positionable between a powered transport position and a powered wheelchair position is provided. The mobility device includes a frame including a pair of side rails, a pair of wheels on each side rail, a distance between each wheel on a corresponding side rail defining a length of the mobility device, a pair of arms coupled to an end of the pair of side rails, and a seat member positioned between the pair of arms. A pair of foot plates is pivotally attached to the pair of side rails and rotatable between an unfolded position in which the foot plate is horizontal and a folded position in which the foot plate is vertical. Each foot plate having a length at least substantially equal to the length of the mobility device.

Abstract: A patient mobility system for early patient ambulation. The system includes a patient support apparatus comprising a patient support surface supported by a base adapted to rest upon a floor surface. An ambulation device is removably coupled to the patient support apparatus and comprises a barrier. In a coupled configuration, the ambulation device is supported off of the floor surface and the barrier prevents egress by being adjacent to a side of said patient support surface and having a height sufficient to at least partially extend above the patient support surface. In a decoupled configuration, the ambulation device engages the floor surface and provides support to the patient during ambulation away from the patient support apparatus. The barrier may comprise articulating members configured to articulate between a barrier configuration in the coupled configuration, and a deployed configuration with wheels engaging the floor surface in the decoupled configuration.

Abstract: A robotic walker and associated method are provided. The robotic walker includes a housing containing a control unit operatively connected to a drive unit. The drive unit is operatively connected to a pair of motorized drive wheels. The robotic walker includes first and second winches, each winch having a strap that can be retracted by its respective winch, each winch is operatively connected to the drive unit, each strap having an end adapted to be removably connected to a pair of leg braces worn by a user. The first and second winches may retract a portion of each respective strap to move the legs of the user forward. A first control button is operatively connected to the control unit. The control unit is configured to operate the robotic walker in at least one control mode and the first control button being operable to start the at least one control mode.

Abstract: Examples of a device for guiding and detecting a motion of a target joints and a motion assistance system such motion guiding devices are described. The motion guiding and detecting device comprises a motion generator and a motion transfer and target interfacing unit to transfer the motion generated by the motion generator to the target joint. The system further comprises a motion detection and feedback unit that interfaces with the target, and a controller that interfaces with both the feedback unit and the motion generator to control and coordinate the motion of the motion generator and the target joint.

Abstract: An elevation device used in the performance of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) includes a base and an upper support pivotably coupled to the base. The upper support is configured to elevate the individual's upper back, shoulders and head when pivoted. The upper support is expandable lengthwise. Abstract: The present invention provides a device with a pressure control system and methods for controlling the application of negative pressure to an external surface of an individual for creating and/or maintaining patency of the upper airway passage. The device is configured to fit under the chin of a subject at an external location corresponding approximately with the subject's internal soft tissue associated with the neck's anterior triangle. The pressure control system contains control module elements that may include circuit board elements, digital output barometer elements, sensor elements, processing elements and memory elements to optimize device function and safety of the device through regulation of the flow rate of the air pump.

Abstract: An orthotic device for assisting a user in walking includes an underarm support assembly configured to support a user's weight without damage to their nerves, and upright support pivotally connected to the underarm support assembly and a ground engaging assembly pivotally connected to the upright support. In one embodiment, the underarm support assembly is spring biased relative to the upright support to bias the upright support to an orientation substantially perpendicular to a longitudinal dimension of the underarm support. The ground engaging assembly is also biased to bias the ground engaging assembly to a position perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the upright support while allowing the ground engaging assembly to pivot about an axis perpendicular to the longitudinal dimension of the upright support and about an axis parallel to the longitudinal dimension of the upright support.

Abstract: A method of controlling a compression device controls a vent phase of a compression device having an inflatable bladder capable of being pressurized for applying compression to a part of a subject's body. The method includes delivering pressurized fluid from a source of pressurized fluid to a first inflatable bladder disposed about a portion of the subject's body and venting the pressurized fluid from the first inflatable bladder by opening a first valve. The method further includes monitoring fluid pressure in the first inflatable bladder during the venting of the first inflatable bladder. Based at least in part on the monitored fluid pressure, the first valve is selectively closed and selectively reopened to control fluid pressure in the first inflatable bladder to remain within a desired residual pressure range.
