Abstract: The invention relates to a process for the preparation of hydroxyalkylated polyethyleneimines by hydroxyalkylation of polyethyleneimines in one or two procedural stages to form reaction products which contain 1 to 200 mol alkylene oxide groups per NH group in the polyethyleneimine. In the one-stage process, there are anhydrous polyethyleneimines and 1 to 20 mol %, in relation to the polyethyleneimines, of at least one anhydrous base, or aqueous solutions of said substances are dehydrated and after removing all the water are reacted at temperatures above 135-150 DEG C with at least one alkylene oxide. Alternatively, in the two-stage process, in the first stage polyethyleneimine is reacted at temperatures of from 80 to 100 DEG C with 0.7 to 0.9 mol, in relation to a mol NH group in the polymerisate, of at least one alkylene oxide in an aqueous solution, and in the second stage the reaction product obtained in the first step is reacted in the presence of 1 to 20 mol %, in relation to polyethyleneimine, of an alkaline catalyst in the absence of water at temperatures of from 120 to 150 DEG C with at least one alkylene oxide to form hydroxyalkylated polyethyleneimines which contain 1 to 200 mol of alkylene oxide groups per NH group in the polyethyleneimine. The consequent alkoxylated products are only slightly coloured.

Abstract: Corrosion inhibitor contains: (A) 2-98 wt.% of a condensation product of diethylenetriamine or dipropylene triamine with (un)satd. 6-22C fatty acids in mol. ratio of 2-1:1-2.5, which has been partially converted into corresponding ammonium salts; and (B) 0-70 wt.% organic solvent. The novelty is that the inhibitor further contains (C) 2-98 wt.% of a condensation product, as corrosion inhibitor, of an amine mixt. of: (a) 20-70 wt.pts. N-(2-aminoethyl)ethanolamine; (b) 30-80 wt.pts. polyamines of formula: H2N-(CH2)m-NHn-H (where m = 2 or 3; and n = 3-8); and (c) 0-20 wt.pts. further aliphatic amines, with (un)satd. 6-22C fatty acids in mol. ratio of 2-1:1-2. An alternative corrosion inhibitor is also claimed.

Abstract: Aldehydes are produced by hydroformylation of olefins using a dissolved homogeneous catalyst comprising a special Group VIII metal-polyamine complex, followed by distillation of products with removal of high-boiling components from the sump and recycling of catalyst and excess ligand. A process for the production of aldehydes or aldehydes and alcohols comprises the hydroformylation of olefins at 50-100 deg C and 20-1000 bar in presence of a homogeneous (dissolved) complex catalyst. This catalyst contains a Group VIII metal and a phosphorus-free, multi dentate ligand consisting of a derivatized, essentially water-insoluble polyamine with an average mol.wt of more than 1000 and at least 10 nitrogen atoms. After the reaction, the catalyst complex and excess ligand are returned to the hydroformylation reaction after complete or partial removal of aldehydes and alcohols by distillation, and at least part of the high-boiling component is continuously or at least intermittently removed from the distillation sump. An Independent claim is also included for a hydroformylation catalyst complex with a Group VIII metal as central atom and, as ligands, at least one carbonyl group and at least one polyamine as above.

Said products are obtained by reacting polymers, containing amino and/or ammonium groups, from the group of: polymers containing vinyl amino units, polyalkylene polyamines, polyamidoamines, polyamidoamines grafted with ethylene imine and optionally cross-linked, polydiallydldimethylammoniumchlorides; polymers containing dialkylaminoalkylacrylamide-units or dialkylaminoalkylmethacrylamide units and polyallylamines and dicyandiamide-formaldehyde-condensates, with reactive sizing agents for paper with a polymer/reactive sizing agent weight ratio of 15,000 : 1 to 1 : 1. The invention also relates to reaction products thus obtained and to their use as fixing agents for water soluble and water insoluble interfering substances in the production of paper, paperboard and cardboard from paper materials containing interfering substances.
