PURPOSE: A rice bran extract for preventing or treating sleep disorder, anxiety, or depression is provided to reduce sleep latency and to increase non-REM sleep without side effects. CONSTITUTION: A pharmaceutical composition for preventing or treating sleep disorder, anxiety, or depression contains rice bran extract as an active ingredient. The extract is prepared using water, organic solvent, or a mixture thereof. The organic solvent is low carbon number alcohol, hexane, acetone, ethyl acetate, chloroform, or diethyl ether. The extract is also a fraction prepared by fractioning the organic solvent extract with a second organic solvent. A food composition for preventing or treating sleep disorder, anxiety, or depression contains the extract as an active ingredient.

CONSTITUTION: A food ingredient composition for suppressing the appetite of a user contains more than one component selected from the group consisting of 3-hydroxy flavone, rutin, quercetin, flavonone, naringin, and hesperidin. The suppressing effect of the appetite is obtained by controlling the activity of ghrelin promoting the appetite of the user. The composition suppresses the activity of the ghrelin at 60-100deg C.

A functional food with an activity of reducing blood pressure contains 0.02-50 wt% of the Cynanchum wilfordii ethanol extract as an active ingredient. The pharmaceutical composition is manufactured in the form of powder, granules, tablets, capsules, suspension, emulsion, syrup, external use formulation, supporsitory, and sterilization injection solution. The Cynanchum wilfordii extract is administered in 0.0001-100mg/kg a day.
