    Abstract: UV- and heat-curable aqueous polyurethane dispersion based on aliphatic polyisocyanates and low-mol. wt. aliphatic compounds with at least 2 hydroxyl, mercapto or amino groups also contains compounds with NCO-reactive groups and UV-polymerizable double bonds, carboxylic or sulfonic acids with NCO-reactive groups and an isocyanate blocking agent. UV- and heat-curable aqueous polyurethane dispersions (PD), essentially comprising: (a) aliphatic polyisocyanates with an NCO functionality of 2-4.5, (b) compounds with isocyanate-reactive group(s) and C=C double bond(s) which can be polymerized with UV in presence of a photoinitiator, (c) aliphatic compounds with a mol. wt. of less than 500 and at least 2 isocyanate-reactive hydroxyl, mercapto or prim. and/or sec. amino groups, (d) compounds with isocyanate-reactive group(s) and carboxylic or sulfonic acid group(s), (e) a basic compound for at least partial neutralization of the acid groups in (d), (f) an isocyanate blocking agent (f1) with a deblocking temperature of 70-160 deg C or an added low-mol. wt. compound (f2) with blocked isocyanate groups, and (g) optionally compounds other than (b-f) with only one isocyanate-reactive group. Dispersions (PD) are obtained by reacting (a) with (b) and (c) using a stoichiometric excess of NCO groups over OH groups and with sufficient (d) and (e) for good dispersibility in aqueous media, and then introducing blocked isocyanate groups by reaction with (f1) or by addition of (f2) containing (b) as additive.

The method exhibits many economic, technical and toxicological advantages due to said reduction of the amount of photoinitiators or the absence of photoinitiators.
