Abstract: Cosmetic compositions containing special cationic polymers (P1) and conditioners (C1; e.g. cationic surfactants or polysiloxanes), in which (P1) are obtained by the radical copolymerization of acrylic monomers, N-vinyl-lactams, monomers with amino groups and optionally polyalkylene oxide-containing silicone derivatives. Cosmetic compositions containing cationic polymer(s) (P1) and conditioner(s) (C1) in a cosmetically acceptable medium. Polymers (P1) are obtained by radical copolymerization of (a) 50-70 wt% monomer(s) of formula (A), (b) 5-45 wt% monomer(s) of formula (B), (c) 5-40 wt% mono-unsaturated comonomer with amino group(s) and (d) 0-5 wt% of a polyalkylene oxide-containing silicone derivative. X = O or NR ; R = H or 1-8C alkyl; R = tert.-butyl, or 2-22C alkyl in up to 40 wt% of monomer A (based on a, b, c and d); n = 1-3 Conditioners (C1) comprise cationic surfactants, cationic polysiloxanes, cationic polysaccharides, polyamidoamines, organosiloxanes, linear or branched 8-300C hydrocarbons, linear or branched 8-30C fatty alcohols, esters of 8-30C fatty acids with 1-30C alcohols, esters of mono- or di-basic 1-7C acids with 8-30C fatty alcohols, ceramides or analogous compounds, and hydrolysed proteins.

Abstract: The present invention describes the use of finely divided dye-containing polymers PD in the form of an aqueous polymer dispersion or a polymer powder obtainable therefrom, the polymer matrix of which comprises at least one organic dye D in homogeneously dispersed form, as color-imparting constituent in cosmetic compositions. The present invention also describes cosmetic compositions which comprise a color-containing polymer in an amount of from 0.1 to 50% by weight, based on the total weight of the cosmetic composition, and additives customary for cosmetic compositions.

Abstract: The invention relates to acrylate polymers comprising a K-value ranging from 10 to 60, which can be obtained by the radical polymerization of: 30 to 99 wt. % of tert-butyl acrylate and/or tert-butyl methacrylate designated as monomer A; 1 to 28 wt. % of acrylic acid and/or methacrylic acid designated as monomer B, and; 0 to 60 wt. % of a radically copolymerizable monomer or of a radically copolymerizable monomer mixture designated as monomer C, whereby at least one of monomers C yields a homopolymer with a glass-transition temperature lower than 30° C., with the provision that the wt. %'s total 100. The radical polymerization is carried out in the presence of alkane thiols with a C chain length of C 14 to C 22. The invention also relates to acrylate polymers comprising a K-value ranging from 10 to 60, which can be obtained by the radical polymerization of: 30 to 99 wt. % of tert-butyl acrylate and/or tert-butyl methacrylate designated as monomer A; 1 to 28 wt. % of acrylic acid and/or methacrylic acid designated as monomer B, and; 0 to 60 wt. % of a radically copolymerizable monomer or of a radically copolymerizable monomer mixture designated as monomer C, whereby at least one of monomers C yields a homopolymer with a glass-transition temperature lower than 30° C., with the provision that the wt. %'s total 100. The radical polymerization is carried out in the presence of alkane thiols with a C chain length of C 10 to C 22 followed by a hydrogen peroxide treatment. The invention also relates to the use of these acrylate polymers as film formers as well as to their use in cosmetic preparations.

Abstract: Colorant-containing aqueous polymer dispersions comprise (all amounts by wt. of polymer matrix): (A) (i) a polymer matrix based on an ethylenically-unsaturated monomer (M); and (ii) an organic colorant comprising a dye or pigment, UV-absorber or optical brightener uniformly dispersed in the polymer matrix (0.5-50%); (B) a nonionic surfactant (0.1-20%); and (C) an amphiphilic polymer with 0.5-10 mol./kg anionic-functional groups (1-50%). An Independent claim is also included for preparation of the dispersions by: (i) dissolving the colorant in monomer M, (ii) emulsifying the mixture to give a conventional oil-in-water emulsion, (iii) homogenizing to give a mini-emulsion with monomer droplets of average diameter below 1,000 nm and then (iv) polymerizing the mini-emulsion in presence of a soluble free-radical initiator together with (B) (0.1-20 wt.%) and (C) (1-50 wt.%), each wt. being based on the wt. of M.

An Independent claim is also included for a method for fixing or shaping a hairstyle by using these compositions.

Cosmetic compositions (A) comprise cationic polymer(s) (I) and light protectant(s) (II), where (I) are obtained by radical copolymerization of: (1) 50-70 wt. % acrylate ester or acrylamide derivative monomer(s) (IA), (2) 5-45 wt. % vinyl lactam monomer(s) (IB), (3) 5-40 wt. % mono-ethylenically unsaturated monomer with at least one amino-containing group; and (4) 0-5 wt. % polyalkylene oxide-containing silicone derivative. X = O or NR1; R1 = H or 1-8C alkyl; R2 = tert. butyl; n = 1-3. Alternatively up to 40 wt. % (based on (a) - (d)) of (a) may be replaced by a monomer (a') of formula (IA; R2 = 2-22C alkyl).
