Abstract: The invention concerns agglomerated particles of finely divided polymers which are water-soluble or capable of swelling in water and contain ammonium carboxlyate groups, and a process for their preparation by azeotropic dehydration of water-in-oil emulsions of the polymers, which are water-soluble or capable of swelling in water and contain ammonium carboxylate groups, in the presence of 0.1 to 40 wt %, relative to the polymers, of polyalkylene glycols, which have an agglomerating effect and are obtained by the addition of C2 to C4 alkylene oxides to alcohols, phenols, amines or carboxylic acids and which contain at least two alkylene oxide units incorporated by polymerization, and additionally from 0.1 to 20 wt %, relative to the polymers, of protective colloids which are obtained by radical copolymerization of C8 to C40 mono-olefins with monoethylenically unsaturated C4 to C6 dicarboxylic acid anhydrides in the manner of a substance polymerization at temperatures from 80 to 300 DEG C to form copolymers having molar masses of 500 to 20,000 g/mol. The invention further concerns the use of the agglomerated polymer particles as thickeners for textile pigment printing inks.

Abstract: Aqueous solutions or dispersions of copolymers obtainable by the radical copolymerisation of A ) 50 to 60 mol% C6 to C40 mono-olefines or C6 to C40 alkyl vinyl ethers or mixtures of C6 to C40 alkyl vinyl ethers and up to 50 mol%, in relation to the entire quantity of the component A , C6 to C40 mono-olefines with B ) 60 to 40 mol% of monoethylenically unsaturated C4-C8 dicarboxylic acid anhydrides, or by the radical copolymerisation of A ) 50 to 90 wt % C6 to C40 alkyl acrylates or methyl acrylates or vinyl esters of C6 to C40 carboxylic acids or mixtures thereof with B ) 10 to 50 wt % of monoethylenically unsaturated C3 to C12 carboxylic acids, monoethylenically unsaturated C4 to C12 dicarboxylic acid anhydrides, semi-ester or semi-amides of monoethylenically unsaturated C4 to C12 dicarboxylic acids, amides of monoethylenically unsaturated C3 to C12 carboxylic acids or mixtures thereof, to form copolymers with molar masses of 500 to 30,000 whereby the carboxyl groups present in an aqueous medium are at least partly neutralised and part of the carboxyl groups may be amidated, and which are characterised by an emulsifier content of 0.5 to 40 wt % in relation to the quantity of copolymer. These aqueous solutions or dispersions are suitable for stuffing and fulling leathers and fur pelts.

Abstract: The present invention relates to the use of water soluble or water dispersible polymers containing carboxyl groups, optionally in latent form, and side-chains of general formula (I): -X-Y-[-O-(-Alk-O)n-R]k as additives in mineral building materials, wherein X, Y, Alk, R, n and k have the meanings cited in Claim 1. Said polymers can be obtained by polymerizing ethylenically unsaturated monomers in the presence of compounds containing phosphorus and, optionally, by additional polymer-analogous transformation. The invention further relates to the production of said polymers and the use thereof. Also described are polymers, which can be obtained by polymerizing aromatic vinyl compounds, olefins, cycloolefins and/or dienes, as D monomers and anhydrides of ethylenically unsaturated dicarboxylic acids as E monomers, and which can be used both as parent compounds for the above-mentioned polymers and as additives for mineral building materials.

It also relates to the use of the polymerisates as sizing agents for the production of paper, as coating agents, as thickening agents for aqueous systems, as detergent additives and as thickening agents in cosmetic creams or lotions.
