    Abstract: A finely divided mixt. of an amphiphilic polymer and a polycarboxylate is prepd. by: (i) mixing: (a) an aq. dispersion or colloidal aq. soln. of an amphiphilic polymer; and (b) an aq. soln. of a polycarboxylate, in ratio by wt. of (a):(b) of 1:1-20, as solids; or by: (ii) dispersing an amphiphilic polymer in an aq. soln. of a polycarboxylate and spray-drying the dispersion to a finely divided polymer mixt.. Also claimed is a polymer mixt. with grain size 20 mu m - 3 mm.

    Abstract: Graft polymers obtd. by grafting (a) a polyalkylene oxide with Mn 300-100,000 based on ethylene oxide, propylene oxide and/or butylene oxide, with (b) N-vinylpyrrolidone and (c) a vinyl ester of a satd. 1-6C mono-carboxylic acid and/or a (m)ethyl (meth)acrylate, in ratio by wt. of (a):(b):(c) of 1:0.3:1-1:5:30, where the order of addn. of (b) and (c) in the graft polymerisation is arbitrary, and where the grafted monomer (c) may be up to 15 mols.% hydrolysed, are used to inhibit greying in washing or after-treatment of textiles contg. synthetic fibres. The graft polymer is pref. prepd. from (a) a polyalkylene oxide with Mn 1,000-50,000 and 40-100 mols.% ethylene oxide, (b) N-vinyl-pyrrolidone, and (c) vinyl acetate. The polymer has K value 5-200 (2% in DMF at 25 deg.C).
