    Abstract: Polysiloxane-containing compositions are prepared using carboxyl-containing polysiloxane(s), aprotic substance(s) which is liquid at room temperature, organic solvent(s), and up to 2 wt.% water. Preparation of polysiloxane-containing compositions comprises using: (A) carboxyl-containing polysiloxane(s) which has structural element(s) of formula (Ia), (Ib), or (Ic) per molecule; (B) aprotic substance(s) which is liquid at room temperature; (C) organic solvent(s); and (D) up to 2 wt.% water. At least one amino-containing polysiloxane which has structural element(s) of the formula (IIa), (IIb), or (IIc) per molecule is reacted, in the presence or absence of component (B). At least one dicarboxylic anhydride of the formula (IIIa) or at least one dicarboxylic acid derivative of the formula (IIIb) and then, if required, component (B) or (C) is added. R1>H, OH, 1-6C alkyl, 6-14C aryl or 1-4C alkoxy; R2>H or 1-6C alkyl; Z1>2-25C alkylene, 3-10C cycloalkylene, 6-14C arylene, -[(CH2)n-NR2>-(CH2)m]p, or structure of formula (1); n, m : 1-10; p : 1-5; A1>2-20C alkylene, optionally substituted by R3> and/or R4>, -CH=CR3>, -CR4>=CR3>-, or structure of formula (2); R3>, R4>H, 1-20C alkyl, 2-20C alkenyl, 6-14C aryl, or 1-4C alkoxy; M : H, alkali metal or ammonium, which may be substituted or cyclic; X : leaving group; Z2>2-25C alkylene, 3-10C cycloalkylene, 6-14C arylene or -[(CH2)n-NR2>-(CH2)m]p. R3> and R4> can be linked to one another with formation of a mono- or bicyclic system. An independent claim is also included for a process for imparting water repellency to or refating materials having a fibrous structure, comprising applying the inventive composition to material having a fibrous structure, allowing to act with or without simultaneously carrying out mechanical treatment steps, and optionally washing and drying.     Abstract: A semicontinuous process is provided for the preparation of 4,4'-dihydroxydiphenyl sulfone, comprising the following steps:(a) reaction of phenol with a sulfonating agent,(b) suspension of the resulting crude product in water heated to at least 40° C., which is free of inert organic solvents and can contain residual amounts of unreacted phenol, and filtration of the product, and(c) recycling of the resulting educt-containing and/or product-containing waste streams into the preparative process,wherein, in carrying out step (b), the crude product and water are used in a weight ratio of 85:15 to 55:45.
