Abstract: Particle-shaped, linear, planiform or 3-dimensional entities (I) contain, at least on the surface, a hydrophilically effective amount of polymer(s) with urethane and/or urea groups and ammonium groups. Independent claims are also included for the following: (i) polymers (II) based on (a) polyisocyanate(s) and (b) compound(s) with at least two isocyanate-reactive groups and at least one tert. amino group, the latter being at least partly neutralized and/or quaternized; and (ii) methods for modifying the surface properties of entities (I) by treating the surface with (II) or by modifying the material from with the entity is made with (II) and then converting the material into (I).
